asign variables in a "for" loop
Dear R-helpers, I'm stuck with a little problem that surely has an easy solution but I can't think of a way to solve it. I'd really appreciate any help you can offer me! I'll provide a small example. Given a dataframe data.txt that looks like this: ID freq Var Var_mean Ratio_mean Var_median Ratio_median Var_sum Ratio_min Var_max Ratio_max Var_min

Plotting Data Frame
Dear R community members, I think I am asking a very simple question, but I really looked up in the faqs and manuals and found nothing helpful. problem reading Matlab file into R
Hi, I'm trying to read a .mat file into R (2.11.1) with medium success so far. The file I have is a MATLAB 5.0 MAT-file exported from RiverSurveyor LIVE software (http://www.sontek.com/software.php). I have R.matlab and Rcompression installed and readMat() starts reading the file, as can be seen in verbose mode (hence medium success), but then gives the following error: Error in dim(matrix)

Apparently, the ASTContext.o file there contained 16453 sections, not 33066, as

How to get prediction for a variable in WinBUGS?
Dear all,I am a new user of WinBUGS and need your help. After running the following code, I got parameters of beta0 through beta4 (stats, density), but I don't know how to get the prediction of the last value of h, the variable I set to NA and want to model it using the following code.Does anyone can given me a hint? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Best

gee and geepack: different results?
Hi, I downloaded both gee and geepack, and I am trying to understand the differences between the two libraries. I used the same data and estimated the same model, with a correlation structure autoregressive of order 1. Surprisingly for me, I found very different results. Coefficients are slightly different in value but sometimes opposite in sign. Moreover, the estimate of rho (correlation

Unbalanced data in split-plot analysis with aov()
Dear all, I'm analysing a split-plot experiment, where there are sometimes one or two values missing. I realized that if the data is slightly unbalanced, the effect of the subplot-treatment will also appear and be tested against the mainplot-error term. I replicated this with the Oats dataset from Yates (1935), contained in the nlme package, where Variety is on mainplot, and nitro on

fit lognorm to cdf data
* fitdistr? * it seems unusual (to me) to fit directly to the data with lognormal... fitting a normal to the log of the data seems more in keeping with the assumptions associated with that distribution. -- Sent from my phone. (m)simtest ?
Hi,. We have 2 values (first formant F1, second formant F2) for a given phoneme for six languages. We want to see whether the languages are significantly different one from another for this given phoneme. We have done a manova on our data and it works well, but we doesn't allow us to see which pair of languages are different. If we have only one formant for the phoneme, we would use

Very slow plot rendering with X11 on CentOS 5.5
I am connecting from a PC to a Linux system running CentOS release 5.5 (Final) and it is extremely slow to render plots to the X11 device. This is not R's fault but I wonder if anyone can offer guidance so I can help the system administrators address the problem. I can connect to the Linux server using a NoMachine NX client for Windows or using X-Win32. I also have access to R running
