This is probably interesting for several people here: Ubuntu 14.04 server contains Samba version 4.1.6 The default smb.conf contains a line server role = standalone server According to the output of the command 'testparam', there seems to be no difference between 'standalone server' and 'classic primary domain controller'. Problem: On each login ubuntu shows the message no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4864, leaking memory This is a known bug, not yet fixed, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1257186 Workaround: apt-get remove libpam-smbpass There is no line 'domain logons = yes' in smb.conf, but that seems to be not required. I just got it working as NT4-style domain controller with basicly the same modifications to smb.conf as in Ubuntu 12.04 and 10.04.
