Hi, This is my first time mailing to this site. I am running two different versions of Samba on two different servers. 2.0.6 on server A & 2.0.7 on server B In the smb.conf file for 2.0.6 I have a parameter, allow hosts=, that contains multipul IP addresses on each entry & in the global entry. On server B, 2.0.7, I do not have this parameter defined on any entry. My question is : Can I change the smb.conf file running 2.0.6 and remove the allow hosts= parameter??? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephen E Perrizo EDS/I-Solutions, Infrastructure Services, Midwest UNIX Systems Team AMI/McQuay - 763-553-5050 Fax - 763-553-5016 steve.perrizo@mcquay.com steve.perrizo@eds.com

If you remove the line, every host is allow to ocnnect to the samba server. So if every client may access the shares, you can remove the parameter and restart samba. Lennard
Hi, I guess you could remove the entry, but by doing this you allow "any" host to access your samba server / specified share, as defined in global or share section of smb.conf. I suggest only allowing access to networks you want to access your samba server, simply add it to the global section. eg: hosts allow = 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 for details read eg http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/smb.conf.5.html#HOSTSALLOW cu Bernd> -----Original Message----- > From: samba-admin@lists.samba.org > [mailto:samba-admin@lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of Perrizo, Steve > Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 2:51 PM > To: 'samba@lists.samba.org' > Subject: [Samba] Question about version 2.0.6 & 2.0.7 > > > Hi, > > This is my first time mailing to this site. > > I am running two different versions of Samba on two different > servers. 2.0.6 > on server A & 2.0.7 on server B > In the smb.conf file for 2.0.6 I have a parameter, allow hosts=, that > contains multipul IP addresses on each entry & > in the global entry. But also read the comment send by Bernd W?lfel <bernd.woelfel@techpilot.net> on the list.
