Hi, when I am connecting to samba, openingor saving a MS Word document, nearly every time there is a core-file. In the log-file there I found following message: [2002/08/12 15:13:44, 0] lib/util_sec.c:assert_gid(111) Failed to set gid privileges to (-1,-24) now set to (0,0) uid=(0,0) [2002/08/12 15:13:44, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1064) PANIC: failed to set gid What does it mean? what is the unix directory of the file you want to open or save ? check the directory permission : be root on the server su - username (the user you use when opening the word document on the station) go to the directory where the document is using cd pathname try to create and read a file there ( touch toto ; rm toto) you should be able to do this without errors. Samba doesn't like that. The usual solution is to create a new account like 'smbnull' (disabled etc), and set it as the 'guest account' in your smb.conf.
