I'm having a problem authenticating to my Samba server. I'm NOT using winbind, and I have setup local users in the smbpasswd file. My w2k workstation works as I would expect and when I connect I see the following in the log.smbd. [2002/05/14 10:38:23, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(980) Defaulting to Lanman password for administrator [2002/05/14 10:38:23, 3] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(1018) Registered username administrator for guest access [2002/05/14 10:38:23, 3] smbd/process.c:chain_reply(1005) Chained message [2002/05/14 10:38:23, 3] smbd/process.c:switch_message(667) switch message SMBtconX (pid 3118) [2002/05/14 10:38:23, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(321) setting sec ctx (0, 0) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0 [2002/05/14 10:38:23, 3] smbd/password.c:authorise_login(834) authorise_login: ACCEPTED: session list username (administrator) and given password ok ******** But, when I connect using an NT 4.0 box with Service Pack 6a. I get: ********* [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 3] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(866) sesssetupX:name=[ADMINISTRATOR] [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(980) Defaulting to Lanman password for administrator [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 3] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(1018) Registered username administrator for guest access [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 3] smbd/process.c:chain_reply(1005) Chained message [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 3] smbd/process.c:switch_message(667) switch message SMBtconX (pid 3114) [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(321) setting sec ctx (0, 0) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0 [2002/05/14 10:35:57, 3] smbd/password.c:authorise_login(898) authorise_login: ACCEPTED: guest account and guest ok (nobody) In the smb.conf I _do_ have encrypted passwords=yes. I don't understand why smbd doesn't detect that the NT workstation logged in as administrator but changes it to guest. Any help is appreciated !!
