Dear Sirs, I am a user of SUN Solaris 8 (intel) platform, and I had installed the newest samba 2.2.2 version, but I can't find the "smbfs" fstype in Solaris which I was used in Linux, Could you please tell me how to solve the problem "smbfs" in Solaris? Thank you in advance. Best Regards, Roger Huang Sincerely Samba User -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
Hello, Unfortunately, the "smbfs" is a Linux-only solution, as it is a component of the kernel, and, as you have found out, it is not available with Solaris. You have two alternatives available to you; you can use the smbclient software, which allows you to mount a Windows or Samba server share on your Solaris machine. Also, you could use the smbsh software, IIRC. Also, please avoid posting to the mailing list in HTML format, if it is possible. Unfortunately, sending mail in HTML format has a negative impact upon archiving and the digest of Samba. Hope this helps. ----------------------------------------------- Sean P. My apologies for some misinformation; smbclient only offers a FTP-like interface to another server. It doesn't, as I had said, allow you to actually mount a Windows share on a UNIX system. The following URL offers an extensive description of the SMB client: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/smbclient.1.html Hope that helps. ----------------------------------------------- Sean P. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the method you mentioned to "mount" a Windows share on Solaris; in fact, such a procedure or program simply doesn't exist. You are forced to use either smbclient, or smbsh on Solaris to access Windows-based servers. Sorry I can't be more help. ----------------------------------------------- Sean P.
