Well, I thought I was an "experience" samba user, but I've ran into something I've never seen before: All SAMBA protocols (smbd and nmbd) work fine on the "localhost", but do not work from a remote system (NT or Linux). This includes "telnet server 139". Basically, the telnet test works as one would expect from the localhost, but not from any remote system. (Do realize that telnet, ftp and other non-SAMBA protocols work perfectly to/from this server.) Any ideas? thanks Brian Howard brian@ingensoftware.net -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

It's there...the choices are 'High', 'Medium', 'Low', 'None (not recommended)', and 'Custom'. It's during the network setup section. -----Original Message----- From: Duane Douglas [mailto:ddouglas@mindspring.com] Sent: Monday, November 19, 2001 2:57 PM To: teg@redhat.com Cc: Brian Howard; samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: Samba and RedHat 7.2 At 02:55 PM 11/19/2001 -0500, Trond Eivind Glomsr?d wrote:>Not by default - you get a choice of firewall configurations during >configuration.hmmm...i don't recall seeing choices during my 7.1 installation. but hey, you'd know better than me (i guess). -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
It's part of their effort to "ship secure." They learned a lesson when RedHat 6.2 default installs ended up being hazards to themselves and others when placed on the Internet. ;) -----Original Message----- From: Brian Howard [mailto:brian@ingensoftware.net] Sent: Monday, November 19, 2001 3:57 PM To: David Brodbeck; 'Duane Douglas'; teg@redhat.com Cc: Brian Howard; samba@lists.samba.org Subject: RE: Samba and RedHat 7.2 I wondered what that did! I took the default (medium) and that seems to have enabled ipchains - go figure. I'm learning to like and hate the new RH installer. brian
