After installing ImageMagick on my 10.4.2 machine with Fink I am unable to install the rmagick gem. The response from gem states that it can not find the libMagick files. Fink keeps the libraries in the default location of /sw/lib and gem does not see that directory even after including it in my $PATH in .profile Is there any way to specify where gem and/or rmagick looks to find the required libs? I think you want to set $LD_PATH or something similar.

thanks, but with all the frustration I have been having with both Fink and DarwinPorts (despite the ease of use when it comes to deps) I decided to install ImageMagick from source to get things where they needed to be. I also figured that since my servers run linux I had better keep my libraries and paths as close as i can to production for safety. This does raise an interesting questions though... When writing apps using Rails; how closely related do the development and production environments have to be? Saying that you install all your ruby gems through the ''gem'' interface and keep versions synced. There might be a very easy answer to this but as I am just entering into the RoR world I figured I would ask J Brien | HybridIndie Productions | hybridindie.com | iam-QLwuMy0vUAhCl22TKe+ceQ@public.gmane.org
