R help - Nov 2009 - Debugging the "unexpected string constant" error in the zp2ssg2.R

I posted the full extent of this question to Nabble, but essentially I'm
having difficulty determining the route cause of the  "unexpected string
constant" error in the zp2ssg2.R (which I'm trying to port over from
Octave).
