Hello, I'm having trouble installing R from the binary to my red hat 7.1 box. There are 2 rpm files on the web site: R-base-1.5.0-1.i386.rpm R-recommended-1.5.0-1.i386.rpm When I did:> rpm -ivh R-recommended-1.5.0-1.i386.rpmerror: failed dependencies: R-base = 1.5.0 is needed by R-recommended-1.5.0-1 libblas.so.3 is needed by R-recommended-1.5.0-1 libR.so is needed by R-recommended-1.5.0-1 I can't find libblas.so.3 and libR.so on the web site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And it is much better to use -Uvh rather than -ivh in general (unless you need both versions of something).>I can't find libblas.so.3 and libR.so on the web site.libR.so is part of R base, so that will be taken care of. libblas.so.3 is a puzzle. It might be provided by R-base, but on my system it is provided by a package called blas, which you can get from http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ it is the "Basic Linear Algebra..." package. My hunch is that it is part of R-base, so I would try that first. More advice: learn how to use rpm. It is a wonderful tool. Look at all the options of rpm -q, for example. And "rpmfind" is always helpful too. -- Jonathan Baron, Professor of Psychology, University of Pennsylvania R page: http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/ -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !) So I suspect you will need to upgrade your RedHat to 7.2 at least. I said (with reference to installing R-1.5.0 on RedHat 7.1):> But I think you will find that even when you do install R-base first, or > concurrently, it will then discover that libreadline is out of date and > Tcl and Tk are not there (or perhaps also out of date - I didn't follow > up on this). Of course I was forgetting that what I had tried was to install the RH 7.2 version of 1.5.0 (that I had downloaded for my system) on somebody else's system running RH 7.1. Sorry about any confusion, and thanks to Jari Oksanen <jarioksa at sun3.oulu.fi> for pointing this out.
