[Asterisk-Users] No Asterisk Sounds on SUSE ES 9/Linux 2.6
I installed SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 that uses a Linux 2.6.5 kernel. When I installed the OS, I chose a minimal package install. I compiled the latest asterisk out of CVS. So far things have gone OK. I can establish phone calls (SIP, TDM, etc) and the quality is good. Only problem is that I can get no sound out of Asterisk itself: prompts, comedian mail prompts, etc. I can see messages on the console showing things like: -- Executing NoOp("SIP/1547-5fbe", "") in new stack -- Executing Goto("SIP/1547-5fbe", "intern-post|9500|1") in new stack -- Goto (intern-post,9500,1) -- Executing VoiceMailMain("SIP/1547-5fbe", "1547@intern") in new stack -- Playing 'vm-password' (language 'en') And since I know the menus I can step through them without hearing the prompts so I do not believe it is script/extentions problem. The server has no sound card but I have never needed one to date. In desperation, I even installed the ALSA sound system, recompiled asterisk, and adjusted /etc/asterisk/modules.conf to use ALSA instead of OSS, but this did not help. I figure that since I did a minimum install on SUSE, there is some key program that I have not installed but is needed. However, I can find no complaints on the asterisk console or messages leading me closer to a solution -- even with maximum debugging turned on. Except I did a fairly basic debian install. Oh, and that was the second machine I have had that problem on, the other was a pretty full install of debian (x windows, gnome, etc... yeah I know, X is bad but I was just playing around with some old bits of hardware)... Hello, looking for help. I've been running * on my dual xeon P2 450's for the last 2 months, no real problems. I've been adding users to my system and will probably hit over 50 users this month. I messed around with SER a month or so ago and am just too stupid to figure it out... If there are some SER experts out there, I'd be willing to consider compensation for assistance in setting up a * and SER in way that I can understand and will be able to work on...I'm purchasing a new P4 Xeon 2.8 GHZ next week and will begin my work on the network around then... Thanks Luke Catranis P.S. I'm not looking for consultants... just somebody who has a working system and can fully articulate SER Routing and AUTH so that I can probably integrate it with *.

So you need to compile ztdummy or another similar device. Here is the wiki link on the timer stuff: http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk%20timer%20ztdummy Also, for debian users here is what I do to avoid a kernel recompile: apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686 apt-get install kernel-headers-2.6.8-1-686 cd /usr/src ln -s kernel-headers-2.6.8-1-686 linux ln -s kernel-headers-2.6.8-1-686 linux-2.6 Of course reboot to get on the new kernel (2.6.8) Do the cvs download or tar ball install. Compile your zap stuff update-modules Compile your asterisk and install and your are up. Just my two cents... -- respectfully, Joseph ==============---------------------= ********** =

[Asterisk-Users] No Asterisk Sounds on SUSE ES 9/Linux 2.6
I have a digium TE410P installed and I thought that provided timing -- therefore no need for ztdummy. However, there are some interesting notes on the wiki (via your url) concerning ztdummy and kernel 2.6. After reading, I am still not certain this whether on linux 2.6 ztdummy is needed if digium hardware is present. -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Joseph Sent: Thursday, September 30, 2004 12:14 PM To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion Subject: RE: [Asterisk-Users] No Asterisk Sounds on SUSE ES 9/Linux 2.6 On Thu, 2004-09-30 at 11:36, Adam Goryachev wrote:> On Fri, 2004-10-01 at 01:09, Steve Woolley wrote: > > Were your problem debian installs with a 2.6.X kernel? > > Yes, they were... using 2.6.8.1 kernel from kernel.org, compiled with > most non-needed components removed. >A couple things: For * to talk back to you, like voicemail, prompts etc, I think it needs a timing device.
