Strange, just ran your original configure command on a fully updated 
Ubuntu 20.04 machine:

sudo ./configure --prefix=/opt/samba

Which ended in:

'configure' finished successfully (40.179s)

Try it without the '-j4'

What filesystem are you using ?

Yes very strange, in the same machine, is running(now) samba 4.13.2..

df -T /tmp/
Filesystem??????????????????????? Type 1K-blocks??? Used Available Use% 
Mounted on
/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv ext4? 24639824 8698816 14666336? 38% /

same erro without "-j4"
