Does nobody read the wiki?
As far as i know, as of samba 4, i dont do any registry changes anymore. And thinking.. even with samba 3 i did not set these on my win 7 systems. I still have few win 7 pc's connect to samba 3.6 PDC, without registry changes. But it all depends on correct dns / dns domainname /wins settings. ( for samba also, i always use "dns proxy = yes" ) If these arent correct, then the registry hacks are needed. My home server is a "PDC" setup, but i do set the needed dns/domain/search Setting in my dhcp. Which makes dns name resolution always works. For the wiki.. well, best thing is to keep it there. Lots of home/pdc servers dont have correct dns/dhcp settings, which makes things fail. Other info also https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2171571 if you see: "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed. The name will remain "MYDOM". The error was: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" Greetz, Louis> -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org] Namens Rowland Penny > Verzonden: vrijdag 2 oktober 2015 10:11 > Aan: samba at lists.samba.org > Onderwerp: Re: [Samba] Samba 4 PDC and Windows Join > > On 02/10/15 08:20, L.P.H. van Belle wrote: > > No, should not be needed. > > > > At least, i dont set anything these days, it just works. > > Tested with win XP => Win 10 > > > > Gr. > > Louis > > > > > >> -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > >> Van: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org] Namens Dario Lesca > >> Verzonden: vrijdag 2 oktober 2015 9:14 > >> Aan: Samba List > >> Onderwerp: [Samba] Samba 4 PDC and Windows Join > >> > >> If I setup a samba 4 PDC (not AD) like I do with samba 3, I still have > >> to change the follow registry key on Win 7/8/?/10 for join it to samba > >> domain ? > >> > >> > [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Pa > >> rameters] > >>> "DomainCompatibilityMode"=dword:00000001 > >>> "DNSNameResolutionRequired"=dword:00000000 > >>> > >>> > >> > [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Netlogon\Parameters] > >>> "DisablePasswordChange"=dword:00000001 > >> Many thanks > >> > >> -- > >> Dario Lesca > >> (inviato dal mio Linux Fedora 22 con Gnome 3.16) > >> > >> > >> -- > >> To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the > >> instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba > > > > > > Hi Louis, are you saying that most of this page could be deleted?: > > https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Required_settings_for_NT4-style_domains > > Rowland > > P.S. I have 6 Windows 10 machines here joined to a Samba 4.1.18-3.33.2-3407 domain on openSUSE 13.1. @Dario Lesca How is your progress? I'm asking just in case you use Roaming Profiles. I'm trying this for weeks now without success. With the standard exclusions in [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ExcludeProfileDirs] almost nothing is saved. I can't run any Apps. And if you change the registry key and include (=not exlcude) AppData\Local\* I can't even open the start menu. I already mentioned this problem to MS and on this list. But nobody answers. I still can't believe, I'm the only one since I got the same problem with 6 machines on a clean Windows 10 installation, each. So at least I'm interested if someone else is having the same problem. Yours, Alex
