It doesn't.  If you look at the function I mentioned in the previous
email, it only tries the AUR if the core package is not found (or more
precisely, failed to be downloaded for some reason).

However since all the pacman commands are failing because of
`error: failed to update core (unable to lock database)', it tries to
download the package from the AUR.

same test errors on my other arch box ( a very clean one) when running
make check for supermin

I didn't mentioned it, but I already ran

# rm /var/lib/pacman/db.lck
I even tried building with make -j1 just in case some other thread was
locking the DB.

In fact, some process during the build is already locking the DB.
