Two issues with ggplot2 - grid.gedit doesn't work from source file & grid.gedit effects are not preserved
Code for this post is shown below.   Two issues: (1) grid.gedit doesn't work from source file Reproduce - copy the code shown below into an R source file, and of course save off in the appropriate location.  Then copy the the first line "source("C:/TestCode.R")" into R and run. Notice that you get the following error:Error in editDLfromGPath(gPath, specs, strict, grep,

Broke ggplot...
It appears I broke ggplot in my script, but that maybe it is because the caffeine has worn off or maybe it is late in the day.   I thought I was beginning to understand ggplot, but I have encountered a silly little issue.   For some reason the following does not produce a histogram with fill due to the Person's characteristics: (Note that VADeaths_flat_df$Data works fine...)

ddply function nesting problems
While putting my R code into functions, I've encountered a ddply function nesting issue and need a bit of advice on the proper way to fix it.? I've tried several approahces, but neither worked and I need to have the ability to include the "cut", "range", and "fullseq" methods within ddply.? (For a bit of that explanation refer to

A way to "lock down" the order of bars for ggplot "dodged" histogram
It appears that ggplot reorder the data for a "dodged" histogram based on whether or not a specific variable has a value in the first bin.   I would like to be able to absolutely force the order of the variables in the bin.  For example, say I have three variables Me, You, and Them.   Me_df<-data.frame(Data = c(1:15), Person = "Me") You_df<-data.frame(Data = c(10:20),

two plots in qplot
Hello I simply want to plot two variables against one 'year' variable in qplot. Is any way of doing this without reshaping data in long format and using facet function afterwards? Thank you Denis

change order of plot panels in faceted ggplot/qplot
Hi, I have a 5-paneled figure that i made using the facet function in qplot (ggplot). I've managed to arrange the panels into two rows/ three columns, but for the sake of easy visual comparisons between panels in my particular dataset, I want to have the two plots on the bottom align on the right hand side of the figure instead of the left. Here's an example: m <-

qplot (ggplot2) faceting histogram with missing values
Hi, I've run into a difficulty with qplot function (in the ggplot2 package). I can facet histograms even when the faceting variable contains missing values, but only so long as the faceting variable is not a factor. Example: y1 <- rnorm(10) x1 <- c(rep(1,5), rep(2,4), NA) x2 <- factor(c(rep(1,5), rep(2,4), NA)) library(ggplot2) qplot(y1, geom = "histogram", facets =

Converting qqplot2 qplot() to grammar?
Hello all, I've been using the following qplot command: qplot(pixX,pixY, data=som, geom="tile", fill=rgb) + scale_fill_identity() + opts(aspect.ratio = .75) + facet_grid(unitX ~ unitY) Now I would like to convert it into the explicit ggplot grammar, so I can remove the extras: axes, labels, background, borders, facet labels, and extra white-space around the plot. (If anyone has

dotplot: character size of labels
Dear R users, using dotplot (R1.2.0, WinNT4.0), I am trying to change the character size of the labels of the points: > # example > data(VADeaths) > dotplot(VADeaths, main = "Death Rates in Virginia - 1940") > # I'd like to have smaller character size of the labels (for age and population groups) > ?dotplot > # for argument "cex", this says:

Plot window - save as Postscript question
R 2.4.0 for Windows The following plot appears as a squared window (as all r-plots) Not all subtitles are visible, but all subtitle will appear, when changing the aspect ratio of the plot window with the mouse to a wide format. But does not work when using the save as postscript menu item from the plot window. is there any solution for that? opar <- par(mfrow = c(2,2), oma = c(0, 0, 1.1,

Vertical bars with barchart
Hallo, What is the right way to get vertical bars in a barchart? For instance barchart(VADeaths, key=simpleKey(colnames(VADeaths),points=F,rectangles=T)) gives what I need, only I would like the bars to be vertical. But barchart(VADeaths, horizontal=F, key=simpleKey(colnames(VADeaths),points=F,rectangles=T)) does not give what I need, and I do not understand how to change the

dotplot: character size of labels (PR#816)
There seems to be a bug in "dotplot" concerning the "cex" parameter. Setting cex has no effect on the character size of the labels of the points. This problem was posted to r-help today (Thu, 18 Jan 2001); the solution given by Brian Ripley (and Uwe Ligges) seems to work for me. Heinrich Rinner. > version _ platform i386-pc-mingw32 arch x86

bug/feature with barplot?
I have found a bug/feature with barplot that at least to me shows undesireable behaviour. When using barplot and plotting fewer groups/levels/factors(I am unsure what they are called) than the number of colors stated in a col statement, the colors wrap around such that the colors are not fixed to one group. This is mostly problematic when I make R figures using scripts, since I sometimes have

lattice: How to display no box but only a y-axis on the left + Thicker lines
Hi, I have two somewhat embarassing questions about the lattice-related plot functions: 1.) How do I make lattice (e.g. barchart) to not draw a box but only a y-axis on the left hand side so that the plot looks like barplot with default settings? So that the following two code snippets look more alike: barplot(VADeaths) library(reshape) vad <- melt(data.frame(VADeaths,

Bar widths in barplots don't change
Is the width= parameter in barplot() supposed to work? I couldn't get it to work in my plot, and even in the example, data(VADeaths, package = "base") barplot(VADeaths, width=rep(0.1, 4)) the plot looks identical regardless of what I put in for the width. I looked at the source for barplot() and it looks like it SHOULD work (but what do I know). Am I doing something wrong?

Unable to run smoother in qplot() or ggplot() - complains about knots
I get the following error when I run qplot() qplot(grade, read, data = hhm.long.m, geom = c("point", "smooth")) Error in smooth.construct.cr.smooth.spec(object, data, knots) : x has insufficient unique values to support 10 knots: reduce k. Strange error in qplot
Hi all, whenever I try to plot a histogram using qplot() function of "ggplot2" library, I get error like this : > qplot(rnorm(1000), geom="histogram", binwidth=0.2, main = "", xlab="", > ylab="") Error in scale[[1]] : subscript out of bounds However if I remove ylab="" argument, then it is working fine. Am I missing something?
