RuleFit & quantreg: partial dependence plots; showing an effect
Dear List, I would greatly appreciate help on the following matter: The RuleFit program of Professor Friedman uses partial dependence plots to explore the effect of an explanatory variable on the response variable, after accounting for the average effects of the other variables. The plot method [plot(summary(rq(y ~ x1 + x2, t=seq(.1,.9,.05))))] of Professor Koenker's quantreg program

random Forests
Hi, I have a data set with 1000 observations and 260 predictors. The predictor variables are all ordinal. There are 2 classes labeled as, F and T with class proportions of 0.44 and 0.56, respectively. In a call to the function randomForest() with mytry=1 and nodesize=1 and ntree=100 the resulting classifier puts all observations in class T. When I change nodesize to nodesize=5 I get the

Package for Multiple Additive Regression Trees
Hello List, I've been unsuccessful in tracking down a package that does MART. J Friedman's website has a page that mentions an R implementation but the links lead nowhere. There is also a nice walkthru/vignette pdf on his site. But I can not find this package anywhere. Perhaps it's commercial? Does anyone know of where it might be available or of any other R package (or Matlab

Symlink to directories seem recursively for Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS clients
I use Samba 3.0.23d at FreeBSD 4.11-RELEASE-p25 as PDC and sometimes Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS and Mail as client. At FreeBSD box I have directory /common/install/postgreSQL and symlink to it: /usr/export/XP/i386/\$oem\$/install/postgreSQL -> /common/install/postgreSQL The path /usr/export/XP shared for MS Network as XP and mount via net use X: \\my_server\XP. Too many notify events causing Asterisk crash?
Hi, We've implemented a 'page-all' function for some of our customers, and we've noticed that on occasion the page-all will cause asterisk to crash (safe_asterisk then restarts it again). The particular customer has about 20 phones, and also has 5 Linksys 932 to monitor the state of these extensions. I'm not sure whether it is the page-all that causes the crash, or the

How do you clean up this cryptic code?
So, I''m coding my school project in Rails. There are two models, User and Restaurants. I noticed that in Restaurants, when you use the belongs_to method, you could specify the condition of the associated table. There are a few types of users, in the user_type column of the users table - owners is type 1, users are type 2. So in my haste to hand in enough code, in the Restaurant model,

Cryptic error message
I have been trying for some time to run a British financial program, called ShareScope, under Wine. It is the sole remaining reason for me to run Windows, so I am keen to succeed. The developers of the program claim to have run it successfully under Wine, but they don't provide support. Since this is a minority interest, I realise that I will have to solve the problem myself, but I'm

Cryptic error message from namespaceExport
Just to clarify, your package is exporting a class that is not defined? Or is it exporting a class that is defined by a dependency and then masked by setOldClass()? A simple reproducible example would help.
