Groups in histograms?
Dear list, I would like to create histograms for up to three groups, with distincive colour/pattern, in a trellis panel. However, I have not been able to find a way to do this. histogram does not seem to have a group argument. Please help. /Fredrik

SQLDF from Variable Matrix
Dear all, I would like to do sample statistics, e.g. mean, median from very large dataset. This is part of commands I use routinely with several dataset so I would like to make it into function. The simplified examples are Test<-data.frame(A=c('a','b','c','a','b','c'),B=c(1,2,3,4,5,6)) #Create function (This one work)

interpreting anova summary tables - newbie
Hello, Apologies if this is the wrong list, I am a first-time poster here. I have an experiment in which an output is measured in response to 42 different categories. I am only interested which of the categories is significantly different from a reference category. Here is the summary of the results: summary(simple.fit) Call: lm(formula = as.numeric(as.vector(TNFa)) ~ Mutant.ID, data =

"shifted" bar chart / battleship curve
What I want to do is create a horizontal bar chart matrix for a set of data that have a common set of variables (e.g., % of As, % of Bs, etc.) listed on the Y-axis and groups (e.g., Classes) on the X-axis. The key here is that the bars for each individual class plot are "centered" rather than left or right-justified. In archaeology plots similar to this are called battleship curves or

LLVM-based Mutation Testing, first results.
Hello, everybody. We are working on a tool for mutation testing. The work is still in progress and far away from being done. However, we have got some results already. And we would like to share them with you. But, let me give you a brief introduction first. ### Mutation Testing In a nutshell, Mutation Testing is a way to evaluate a quality of a test suite. The approach suggests introducing a

Help boxplot to add mean, standard error and/or stadard deviation
Dear researchers I wish to plot a box plot without the mean line (the black line) and plot only the mean (red square). Futhermore, is it possible to add standard error and/or stadard deviation? This is an example mytest <- c(2.1,2.6,2.7,3.2,4.1,4.3,5.2,5.1,4.8,1.8,1.4,2.5,2.7,3.1,2.6,2.8) boxplot(mytest, lty = "solid") means <- mean(mytest,na.rm=TRUE) points(means, pch = 22, col

Selecting columns whose names contain "mutated" except when they also contain "non" or "un"
Hello All, Started out awhile ago trying to select columns in a dataframe whose names contain some variation of the word "mutant" using code like: names(KRASyn)[grep("muta", names(KRASyn))] The idea then would be to add together the various columns using code like: KRASyn$Mutant_comb <- rowSums(KRASyn[grep("muta", names(KRASyn))]) What I discovered though, is

Axis manipulation in Stackpoly (Plotrix)
Have made a stacked area plot, but now want to manipulate the x axis: make in even increments (50) in order to suppress the tick marks (forming solid bar under plot). However, the plot functions do not seem to work, and I cannot find documentation for use of xat in stackpoly. This is a time series of data covering 579 years, and has been successfully converted from zoo to matrix. Data plotting

Problem plotting curve on survival curve (something silly?)
OK this is bound to be something silly as I'm completely new to R - having started using it yesterday. However I am already warming to its lack of 'proper' GUI... I like being able to rerun a command by editing one parameter easily... try and do that in a Excel Chart Wizzard! I eventually want to use it to analyse some chemotherapy response / survival data. That data will not be

Groups and bwplot
Dear R-users, A while ago, Deepayan Sarkar suggested some code that uses the group argument in bwplot to create some 'side-by-side' boxplots (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2010-February/230065.html). The example he gave was relatively specific and I wanted to generalize his approach into a function. Unfortunately, I seem to have some issues passing the correct arguments to the

problems with Stackpoly, package Plotrix
Dear all, I am fairly new to package Plotrix and I would like to ask you, if any of you could help me with following. a) I don't know how to set up border line width in the Stackpoly function (seems that lwd from par doesn't work, or at least not in the way I have written) b) I don't know, how to rotate the x axis labels (I used srt=45, but same problem as before). c) Could anyone

How to plot 2 continous variables on double y-axis with 2 factors: ggplot2, gplot, lattice, sciplot?
Hi, I have a data set with two continous variables that I want to plot MEANS (I am not intrerested in median values) on a double-y graph. I also have 2 factors. I want the factor combinations plotted in different panes. Dummy dataset: mydata <- data.frame(factor1 = factor(rep(LETTERS[1:3], each = 40)), factor2 = factor(rep(c(1:4), each = 10)), y1 =

Hardware Internet radio devices stream ogg/vorbis?
Hey Paul, Thanks for the reply! If you wanted you could try my radio stream, http://stream.socorock.com:8000/socorock.ogg.m3u - that's really good news, I think I'm gonna pick up one of these things soon! Plotting an interaction with error bars
Hello. I need to plot a two-way interaction (5 levels X 3) with error bars. The x.factor will be the five-levels var and the trace.factor will be the three level var. I was able to find functions that draw error bars, but still couldn't find a way to draw an interaction plot that looks like what is common in psychological (and related) journals: the lines (three in my need) are plotted in

tune2fs -l stale info
Hello, I just noticed that 'tune2fs -l' did not returned a "lively" updated information regarding the free inodes count (looks like it's always correct after unmounting). It became suprising after an online resizing operation, where the total inode count was immediatly updated (grown in my case) but the free inode count was the same: one could deduce that suddenly a lot of

Occasional fchown errors?
Hi: I get the occasional error below. Is there something I don't have configured correctly? Or should I just ignore this? It is not always this file, sometimes it is the cache.lock file or the log.newlock file. I have a mail client running on my computer and my phone at the same time, could that have something to do with it? Nov 10 08:32:59 rabbitbrush dovecot: IMAP(bob):

Superposing data on boxplot
Hi folks, I have a vaiable Y and an associated factor Z at several (13) levels. boxplot(Y~Z) produces a nice array of boxplots, one for each level of Z, and each duly labaelled with its level of Z. I would like to superpose on each boxplot the actual data points which it represents, i.e. do something conceptually (though not in real R) expressed as points(Y~Z) or points(Z,Y) It can
