how to order each element according to alphabet
Hi there,
I have a large amino acid csv file like this:
input.txt:
P,LV,Q,Z
P,VL,Q,Z
P,ML,QL,Z
There is a problem with this file, since LV and VL are in fact the same
thing.
How do I order each element according to alphabetical order so that the
desired output would look like:
output.txt:
P,LV,Q,Z
P,LV,Q,Z
P,LM,LQ,Z

finding files whose name does NOT contain a given character
Unluckily I dela with miRNA files whose name may contain the character "*".
Because of the special meaning of "*" I have to remove it.
I found out how to make list.files() extract only those file names which contain a "*"
Namely:
# list.files(pattern="\\*")
Now I have to process all files whose name does NOT contain the character "*".
I cannot

semi-OT: t-bird mime type on .pdf attachment is wrong
I was sending my manager a copy of a form, and attached it (not inline),
using -t-bird, and he complains it didn't want to open. Looking at the
message source, t-bird had decided that the mime type was all/allfiles,
though the name ended in .pdf. I've searched via the config editor, and
I've been googling, and not finding anything. (I just *adore* the current

how to create normalized pdf plot?
Hello,
I have multiple data files. Each file contains a single column and 1.5
million rows. I want to create normalized pdfs (area under curve is 1) and
histograms to compare with one another. Could anybody suggest if there
exists an easy way or built in function in R.
At present I am using Origin and Excel together to do this. A single file
needs 10 minutes and I have a total of 929 files! So

trouble with Vista & reading files
All,
I am having trouble with a "read.table()" function that is inside of
another function. But if I call the function by itself, it works fine.
Moreover, if I run the script on a Mac OS X (with the default Mac OS X
version of R installed, rev 2.8), it works fine. But it does not work if I
run it on windows vista (also default Windows version of R, rev. 2.8).
Again, both

rspec model testing - test on user defined validation- How do I test that the create failed.
I''m new to rspec and looking for way to test a validation I added to a model.
The test checks to see that if field1 has a value then field2 must be nil
and vice versa.

When I did the rspec_scaffold it generated one test which worked

CentOS 5.7, evince
I believe I updated evince early this month on this one server. Since then
I don't seem to be able to open a .pdf: 100% of the time, I get "unhandled
mime type: files/allfiles". Has anyone seen anything like this?
Note that this is when it's allegedly trying to open it. I've tried
telling it what to open from the command line, and brought it up by
itself, told it to open,

Field initialization order bug?
I believe that I may have found a bug in R. The top code sample gives
an error as shown. However, by simply switching which field is
initialized first as in the bottom code sample, it works as expected.
This gives an error:
a <- NULL
a[["field1"]] <- 1
a[["field2"]] <- matrix(c(2,1), 1)
Error in a[["field2"]] <- matrix(c(2, 1), 1) :

Form Validation
Hi,
I''ve got an interesting one here :)
I have a form with three fields :
serial_number
initial
surname
now, if serial_number is entered, it must be between 1 and 64000. If
it''s filled in, the other two fields must be blank. If serial_number is
left blank then the other two boxes must be filled.
Any suggestions?

How to use R to perform prediction based on history data
Say I have a csv file, each row contains several fields, one of them
are whether the row is success.
In history data, I have all the fields including the result of whether
it is success. In future data, I only have fields without the result.
For example:
history data:
Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 ResultField
1231 CA TRUE 443 TRUE
23231 NC TRUE 123 FALSE

bug with boolean query evaluation containing parenthesis and NOT ?
Hi,
The following [simplified] query works well, however a variation which
includes parenthesis seems to fail, in that it returns hits which should
be excluded by the NOT term.
This is surprising because in this simple case, the parenthesis
shouldn''t change the Boolean evaluation ... any pointers?
Working Query: field1:value1 AND NOT field2:value2
Failing Query: field1:value1 AND

tranform a table?
hello everyone,
i'm new to R, so i hope you dont mind a fairly basic R question. we're
using R to manipulate the results of SQL queries and create an HTML output.
I'm starting with a table that looks essentially like this:
Name Field1 Field2
John value1 value2
Jane value3 value4
My table is stored as a dataframe. I'd like to efficiently produce an
