Date, date, POSIX question
I have been working with R extensively for several months. I switched from SAS and Matlab to R. My question is Can anyone explain the benefits and detractions of the 'Date' package verses the 'date' package and verses 'POSIX' dates. I have noticed several other packages use one or the other. Rmetrics seems to standardize on POSIX. I can only see differences in

Install RMySQL with R 2.4.0
I just installed RMySQL 0.5-9 with R 2.4.0 on Windows XP and got the following error message when trying to run a script with RMySQL: Error in library(RMySQL) : 'RMySQL' is not a valid package -- installed < 2.0.0? Any ideas? Thanks, Frank

Comment blocks in R programs
All, Is there a way to add comment blocks in an R script other than using # at the beginning of each line? Or, is there anything like ndocs for C++ and the markup for Java that can generate documentation? This may be a bad question, but I have searched R documentation and can't seem to find an Answer. I have also looked at the R package documentation mark up docs for help files but

Unable to load RMySQL
Hi R users, I am unable to load RMySQL. The zip file is not available which I guess is needed to load this pakage. I also tried extracting the package from RMySQL_0.5-11.tar.gz and then pasted the package in the directory where R is loaded for which I am getting the following error message "Error in library(RMySQL) : 'RMySQL' is not a valid package -- installed <

Seeking a more efficient way to find partition maxima
Hi. Suppose I have a vector that I partition into disjoint, contiguous subvectors. For example, let v = c(1,4,2,6,7,5), partition it into three subvectors, v1 = v[1:3], v2 = v[4], v3 = v[5:6]. I want to find the maximum element of each subvector. In this example, max(v1) is 4, max(v2) is 6, max(v3) is 7. If I knew that the successive subvector maxima would never decrease, as in the example,

Regular expression to define contents between parentheses
Hello dear R-helpers, I haven't been able to figure out of find a solution in the R-help archives about how to delete all the characters contained in groups of parenthesis. I have a vector that looks more or less like this: myvector<-c("something (80 km/h, sd) & more (6 kg/L,sd)", "somethingelse (48 m/s, sd) & moretoo (50g/L , sd)") I want to extract all

ShuffleKind SK_ExtractSubvector
Hi, I am a little unsure about the semantics of the ShuffleKind SK_ExtractSubvector. It seems a subvector is to be extracted, starting from a given index of a given subtype. First of all, if index 0 is passed, I suppose this would mean a noop? But what about calls like the one made of LoopVectorizer for Instruction::PHI in getInstructionCost(): return

matching subvectors in vector sets
Hi, I've got a list of ~20000 elements that look like this: [1] "A00096:A00096:A00096:A00096:A02178:A02178:A07776" [2] "A00046:A00076:A01101:A04146:A05671:A07169" [3] "A00038:A00932:A02185:A02370:A02818:A02818:A02818:A02818:A04732:A07142:A07142" [4] "A00096:A01352:A01352:A02023:A05001:A05001:A07776" [5]

Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart.
Tested it in two different environments lately with exactly same results. Was trying to get better read performance from local mounts with hundreds of thousands maildir email files by using SSD, hoping that .gluster file stat read will improve which does migrate to hot tire. After seeing what you described for 24 hours and confirming all move around on the tires is done - killed it. Here are my

Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart.
I am fighting this issue: Bug 1540376 ? Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1540376 Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this, and what a fix or work-around might be? Thanks! ~ Jeff Byers ~ Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart. The

Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart.
This problem appears to be related to the sqlite3 DB files that are used for the tiering file access counters, stored on each hot and cold tier brick in .glusterfs/<volname>.db. When the tier is first created, these DB files do not exist, they are created, and everything works fine. On a stop/start or service restart, the .db files are already present, albeit empty since I don't have

Can this loop be delooped?
Hi. I have the following code in a loop. It splits a vector into subvectors of equal size. But if the size of the original vector is not an exact multiple of the desired subvector size, then the first few subvectors have one more element than the last few. I know that the cut function could be used to determine where to break up the vector, but it doesn't seem to provide control over

Weibull- Random Censoring
I generate random vector from Weibull distribution sampWB <-urweibull(sampleSize, shape=shape.true, scale=scale.true, lb=0, ub=Inf) how can I create subvector containing 30% of samplesize of sampWB which should be assigned as Censored data? The probability for each value in sampWB can be uniform to be included in the subvector.

Understanding linear contrasts in Anova using R
#I am trying to understand how R fits models for contrasts in a #simple one-way anova. This is an example, I am not stupid enough to want #to simultaneously apply all of these contrasts to real data. With a few #exceptions, the tests that I would compute by hand (or by other software) #will give the same t or F statistics. It is the contrast estimates that R produces #that I can't seem to

[LLVMdev] SplitVectorOp from CopyFromReg
Hello, I have a kernel that's swizzling a vector inside a loop. The vector was created before the loop. The first node in the dag is an extract subvector which calls into SplitVectorOp. The issue is that the node passed to it comes from a CopyFromReg and SplitVectorOp doesn't know what to do. Is there a reason why SplitVectorOp doesn't handle CopyFromReg nodes? If not, can I submit a

Novice question about getting data into R
I found it easy to use R when typing data manually into it. Now I need to read data from a file, and I get the following errors: > refdata = > read.table("K:\\MerchantData\\RiskModel\\refund_distribution.csv", header > = TRUE) Error in scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : line 1 did not have 42 elements > refdata = >

Can I create a timeDate object using only year and week of the year values?
For a model I am working on, I have samples organized by year and week of the year. For this model, the data (year and week) comes from the basic sample data, but I require a value representing the amount of time since the sample was taken (actually, for the purpose of the model, it is sufficient to use the number of weeks from the middle of the sample week to the present). What I have found so

Virus in message
Hey this group uses exchange for the mailing list? This can't be true what is with all the virus warnings saying it came from exchange. But not only that it said it was deleted and that is not true when the mail reached me it still had the virus attached and my virus scanner deleted it. When these messages are sent to the group aren't they scanned before being sent to the list? Just
