RMySQL installed but not availalable
I don't use MySQL but I have seen messages like this before. They often have replies which indicate that you need to follow the instructions more closely. I suggest you search the list for these previous posts as I'm sure there is help there, somewhere!

RMySQL load error
I'm having trouble getting RMySQL to load. I was able to build it and install
it (RMySQL_0.5-11.tar.gz). I was also able to build and install mysql-5.0.37.
I've read many postings about this but have not found a mention of my
particular problem (some closely related). I get the "unable to load shared
library, no such file" error, but all the files do exist, RMySQL.so and

Unable to load RMySQL
Hi R users,
I am unable to load RMySQL. The zip file is not available which I guess
is needed to load this pakage.
I also tried extracting the package from RMySQL_0.5-11.tar.gz and then
pasted the package in the directory where R is loaded for which I am
getting the following error message
"Error in library(RMySQL) : 'RMySQL' is not a valid package -- installed

connecting RMySQL to and external server
Dear list,
I learned how to connect R to a local MySQL server, using:
drv <- dbDriver("MySQL")
con <- dbConnect(drv, user="root", password="mypass", dbname="mydb")
Is it possible to connect R in this way to an external server (on a different
machine, with a different IP)?
I read the documentation on ?dbConnect (and everything I could find on the

RMySQL - overwrite record, not table
Hi, useR-
In RMySQL, how do I overwrite records? (equivalent to "replace" query).
For example, suppose that dat2 is a newer data.frame than dat1.
con <- dbConnect(MySQL())
res <- dbWriteTable(con, "DBname", dat1, row.names=F, append=T, replace=T)
res <- dbWriteTable(con, "DBname", dat2, row.names=F, append=T, replace=T)
This would not update/replace the

RMySQL *was* working...
List,
Last week with the help of Uwe and some other folks I was able to get RMySQL 0.5-7 compiled against R 2.4.1 and MySQL 5.0.27. It was working fine--I was able to send select queries to the db, put the results in a data frame, and so forth.
Today, dbDriver() threw an error:
> dbDriver(MySQL)
Error in function (classes, fdef, mtable) :

Is there a version of RMySQL for Windows?
I was trying to email directly the developer, David A. James, but all
the emails bounce...
Does anyone know if RMySQL may be re-compiled under Windows
and what are the limitations?
Cheers,
Michal

Running RMySQL with SuSE 8.2?
Since there doesn't appear to be an RMySQL rpm for SuSE 8.*, does
anyone know if the 7.3 version will work with the SuSE 8.2 rpms of R and
DBI?
The package installs without complaint, but when I try to run
con <- dbConnect(dbDriver("MySQL"),dbname="test")
I get the error

RMySQL query: why result takes so much memory in R ?
Hi
I just started with RMySQL. I have a database with roughly 12 millions
rows/records and 8 columns/fields.
From all 12 millions of records I want to import 3 fields only.
The fields are specified as:id int(11), group char(15), measurement
float(4,2).
Why does this take > 1G RAM? I run R on suse linux, with 1G RAM and with
the code below it even fills the whole 1G of swap. I just

Date, date, POSIX question
I have been working with R extensively for several months. I switched
from SAS and Matlab to R. My question is
Can anyone explain the benefits and detractions of the 'Date' package
verses the 'date' package and verses 'POSIX' dates.
I have noticed several other packages use one or the other. Rmetrics
seems to standardize on POSIX. I can only see differences in

RMySQL question, sql with R vector or list
Hi,
I am trying to write a RMySQL sql script inside R such that part of the SQL
would be R list or vector. For example, I want to select * from Atable
where ID would equal to a members of R list or vector of "1, 2, 3". Here
the ID list was generated inside R and then try to feed to mysql to call to
get additional data sets.
Can someone on the list help?
Thanks.

rmysql query help
R HELP,
I am trying to use an R script to connect to a mysql database. I am
having a problem using a variable in the where clause that contains a
"space" in its value.
If I include the variable inside the quotes of the query - i think it is
searching for the name of the variable in the database and not the value
of the variable.
If I put it outside the quotes, then it complains
