data mining: finding association rules
Dear R-users! I would like to search for "association rules" (and compute support and confidence, for example) in a data set, and wonder if this can be done with R (version 1.5.0 for Windows)? Particulary, I wonder if a) anyone has done something like that with R or b)maybe someone has written an R-interface to some existing algorithm/software (e.g. to something like the

k-means cluster and plot labels
Hi, For my data, I followed the example of http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Data_Mining_Algorithms_In_R/Clustering/K-Means#Execution and got some very nice results. Despite the fact, that I want to achieve a bit more by clustering my data (stratification beyond case-control), the actual data-frame contains a column labeled "C" which holds a case-control indicator (here either "Z"

Entropy based feature selection in R
I need to use entropy based feature selection to reduce term space while doing text classification. Are there any R packages available that would help me do this? I can also make do with chi squared based algorithm, if there are packages for that. Thanks in advance. Bug in acepack (PR#2352)
This ancient bug was tracked to the acepack library, line 556 in line src/avas.f The troublesome line is: if (x(n).gt.x(1)) go to 30 Since the input arguments are empty, referencing x(1) and x(n) cause a Segmentation fault, and cause R to crash. Acepack author and maintainer Rob Tibshirani <tibs at utstat.toronto.edu> has been contacted with this information. This is not a

missing values for mda package
Dear helpers, I am trying to use the mda package downloaded from the R website, but the data set has missing values so I got an error message. Should I manually handle these missing values? I was trying to read the documents to specify any option related to missing values, but I did not find it. Please forgive me if I ignore something obvious. Ext-3 journal file growth.
I am amazed that after running Ext3 on our RH 7.2 fileserver for 3 months the .journal file has grown to over 30Mb and has exhuasted all the availble space on /. with all of the obvisious problems this brings. Is the Ext 3 file expected to have unlimited root file space to grow it .journal file? If not how on earth is one expected to manage it. Ken Patching with an unmanagable system thanks

Debian samba 2.2.3-12.3 explosive memory growth
Does anyone have any ideas what might cause samba (specifically, a single smbd process) to grow by several hundred K to as much as 2-4 megs every single time a directory is listed and occasionally when a file accessed by a Windows 2000 client? Eventually the process becomes so large that linux kills it, disrupting processes that are trying to access data at the time. This behavior started

Fwd: WHO Anthro growth curve macros and R
Hi all, some years ago, I sent a question to the mailing list regarding the WHO anthro macros. Since I've now received three mails asking how I solved it, I thought I'd cc R-help in for future reference. Attaching a zip file with the relevant code parts that I used that I'm not sure gets through (if anyone has recommendations on how to manage such files for the list, I'd be
