Detecting numerical value in character variable
I have a variable that can have either numeric or character values.
When numeric, I take one action; when not-numeric, I take another action.
Unfortunately, my approaches are awkward, so I look for others' approaches.
To detect a numeric value, I have semi-successfully used two appoaches.
I somewhat simplify here using direct character values like "123" rather than a variable.

Rjdbc dbGetquery execution error
Rjdbc consistently gives me an execution error with postgresql 9.0s JDBC4
driver. It's probably something trivial so am including my code below:
library("RJDBC")
param <- 249
param2 <- 188129
postgres <- JDBC("org.postgresql.Driver",
".m2/repository/postgresql/postgresql/9.0-801.jdbc4/postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar")

ggmap crash
Not sure if this is the right place to report this, but:
Am using ggmap to generate a map of a bounding box from 161
latitude/longitude pairs and the code crashes R (in ess). Data is at
http://analysis.d8u.us/~hdiwan/plotSource.csv and the code to read it
is below. I'm not sure if ess, emacs, ggmap, R, or my laptop is to
blame. Here's the code:

Version 2.0 with multiple IP/TLS certificate support.
Hello,
I sent this email earlier but for some reason it did not go through so I
will try again!
I am using Dovecot on several servers that require multiple domain SSL
certificates. I like Dovecot very much because of its speed and
stability. Currently, Dovecot does not support multiple SSL
certificates directly although I have gotten around this problem with
multiple Dovecot instances

file_column just will not work...
Hello,
I have been trying for some time to get a file to upload using the
file_column plugin.
My code is here: http://pastie.caboo.se/7304
But my code is not the issue. I cannot even pass the unit test that
come with the file_column plugin.
If I run ruby file_column_test.rb i get:
1) Error:
test_store_dir_callback(FileColumnTest):

Some echo?
I have a 12 channel PRI with SNOM 190's and asterisk CVS from January.
Most calls are fine, all incoming calls are fine, but I am getting
echo on a significant number of outgoing calls.
The person on the other side hears a perfect call, but the SIPphone
side gets to hear themselves.
It happens 100% of the time to some numbers (outgoing only), and only
sporadically to others.
Has anyone

Planning first Linux/Wine install
I'm planning my first Linux/Wine install. Is there any advantage to
having a Windows (say W2K) partition to install Win apps to, when the
plan is to run them under Wine/Linux?
I do have a licensed copy of W2K, so I could do that if it were an
advantage (e.g., is it easier to install difficult or unruly win apps
under windows first?).
Any other suggestions (I'm planning out my partition

the utahvalley.rb will be hackig tonight starting at 7PM in the

It''s that time again. Tuesday at 7PM, in room 120 of the TMCB.
(That would be the Talmage Mah and Computer science Building

It should be a great chance to hang out and have some fun with

analog or sip ? was far end disconnect supervision
Thanks to everyone that responded to my channel bank question. Ive
decided that the Adit 600 would be a good choice.
Then I got to thinking about SIP phones and wondered if their quality
has progressed to the point that they can be deployed to customers who
"just want their phones to work" and wouldn't tolerate any SIP hickups.
As for pricing, I would think the SIP phones would

complete outage by Friday. This took out our Subversion, Wiki, Email
List, everything server. Well, as of 2:15pm US/EDT on Saturday
(yesterday) everything should be back to normal and operational. If you
don't want to

gnucash in a yum repo somewhere?
I'm attempting to install a gnucash rpm I've come across but the dependency
list is long. I've searched high and low and can't find a nice yum repo with
it and all of it's dependencies. Does anyone know if it lives in a yum repo
anywhere? I'm getting lazy in my old age(just turned 30) and I just wanna
"yum install" it rather than tracking it all down like I

Mongrel-modproxy Issue

Accounting package recommendations
Hi,
I am looking for an offline accounting package recommendation, please.
I enjoyed using Xero accounting, but need something that's offline,
and where the data remains my property. Having used Quickbooks on
Windows in the past, I am looking for something similar.
Any recommendations?
