Help - Overwrote database
Hey all. Hope you can help with this. I was running "rake" to run
tests on my server we are setting up for production. I''m currently
entering all my data into the dev database. After running "rake", my
dev database looked just like my test database. It overwrote all my
data??!!??
I was using the same db for production and development if that
matters. My database.yml

Is there a rake task to extract data from a database/table
I know I can get the schema by running
rake db_schema_dump
but, is there a way to ge the data from a table or a database into a format
that can be quickly converted to a migration. What I''m really trying to do
is synch my local development database (schema and data) with the db on my
hosting service.

small question about the relevance of the "database schema has changed"
I have developed 3 small applications using rails (nothing production
worthy, just some small stuff "prototype" style). And I often end up
changing my database scheme in the middle of development. I also use
"script/generate scaffold" (this is somehow relevant to my question).
Whenever I change my database schema I end up having to regenerate the
scaffold. In the past this

Major rsync issue - overwriting files!!!
Hi,
I'm having a MAJOR issue with an rsync backup script that is actually
OVERWRITING the files that it should be backing up!
The thing is, the same script (with different source/destination
variables) runs FLAWLESSLY on another file server!
Background:
2 OS X client computers running 10.4.11 (1 intel, 1 PPC). both are
running rsync v2.6.3.
rsync is backing up from one firewire HD(afp

Dovecot crash
Exactly - I removed then with
find . -name "dovecot.index*" -type f -delete
There is no need to restart dovecot. IMAP client will be forced to resync all the emails from the server.

Thanks. Unfortunately, that made no difference.

is "Task" a reserved class name in Edge Rails? (it clashes with Rake''s Task)
Ok, so I''ll bet that lots of people would naturally have a DB table called
"Tasks" and a model called Task, and this works fine in Rails 1.0. BUT,
using Edge Rails things turn strange when you start visiting your Task pages
because it thinks that you''re trying to use Rake (which also has a Task
class). Is there any way around this?

grey colored lines and overwriting labels i qqplot2
I created this graph in ggplot and added ablines to the different facets by
specifying with subset commands. As you might see, there are still a few
issues.
1.) I would like to have the diamonds in a grey scale instead of colors. I
accomplished this (see graph 2) until I overwrote the label title for the
treatments and the colors came back (graph 1). I used these two commands:

Rake task like "rake cache_digests:dependencies" for Rails 4?
The cache_digests gem has the "rake cache_digests:dependencies" task for
checking template dependencies.
Since Rails 4 includes this caching scheme by default, should it include a
similar rake task?

How to avoid overlapping labels
Hi Remko,
thanks for your answer. but i do
not really understand how to use the commands.
if i want to use thigmophobe.labels(x,y,) do i need to identify the xy
coordinates for each point first and then manually move every point? and if
i neet to do so how to use the identify() function?
or is there any possibility to automatically place the labels in the best
position?

Rake tasks db:test:prepare cannot be executed in the same task of db:reset or db:migrate
Hey all,
I''m trying to create a task that prepare the environment to start
programming.
To do so, I created a task like this *task :setup_env => [''db:reset'',
''db:migrate'', ''db:test:prepare'']* and observed that after execute *
rake setup_env*, it never execute db:test:prepare properly. In order to get
the schema cloned to test db,

Speccing a rake task
Greetings,
I''m writing a custom rake task, and I''d like to write an assosciated spec for it.
Does anyone have an example spec for a rake task?
I''ve seen some examples on the web that use these before blocks:
before(:each) do
@rake = Rake::Application.new
Rake.application = @rake
end
And use
@rake["db:user_migration"].invoke

Heckle rake task
Fellow hecklers,
Just spent a while getting this working. Turns out heckle will heckle
a whole module and sub-modules with one call, so with a bit of string
matching, you can build a nice tool to heckle your whole app and
report any failures.
Was going to post to the list, as the first version was about 4 lines
long, but I''ve embellished it slightly (I got carried away), so

Best practice: installing plugin assets in rake task or install.rb?
I noticed that a few plugins come with rake tasks to install additional
assets. In Rails 1.1.4 there''s a hook file, install.rb, that is run
when after the plugin has been installed (edge Rails has uninstall.rb,
too). Wouldn''t it be nicer to use this (these) hooks to install
(remove) plugin specific files automatically?
Preferrably existing (different) files are overwritten

Disabling FOREIGN KEYs in a Rake task
Hi,
How could I disable my database FOREIGN KEYs in a Rake task?
Or, how could I call the execute() method in a Rake task?
I''m trying to perform something like:
task :delete_the_cippalippa => :environment do
require RAILS_ROOT+''/lib/marsian.rb''
# FIXME: execute() is undefined
execute "SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 0"
Cippalippa.delete(-1)

Using action view helpers (strip_tags) in a rake task?
Hi all -
I''ve got a rake task that migrates some old data (simple, loop through the
old stuff, modify it a bit, and save it to the new system). That all
works great.
However, I''d like to use strip_tags() to remove all HTML from some of the
fields I''m converting, but I can''t figure out how to
include/use/require/load/etc the right stuff to make this work.
