render or redirect_to??
When would I use a render and when would I use a redirect_to? It seems that
a redirect_to would be so much more common, but there has been an emphasis
on rendering in rails

helper/partial/component best practices??
I want to build a sortable table and a treeview. Are there examples of how
to do this in Rails? If I wanted to componentize this, would I use a helper,
or partial or component (or else) and why?

Hardware Vorbis
There is a 'feeling' on the opencores list that an audio decoder is desired.
(MP3 gets mentioned occasionally, but has its patent problems etc...)
http://www.opencores.org/ no audio projects are underway yet and I think a
vorbis decoder will take a while but even if only a start is made then
others may add to it.
For their one year anniversary they will actually be doing a chip run and

Fuzzy searching
Hi, everyone,
Just wondering if someone had come up with a good way to do fuzzy
searches if you use MySQL as your database (we tried switching to
PostgreSQL, but that ended up adding even more problems). Ferret sounds
great, but reading through the discussion it looks like we need to solve
the problem of write conflicts. I just wrote a post in ruby-talk about
using KirbyBase maybe to solve

HOW TO DO AN APPLIFECYCLE LISTENER IN RAILS???
In jsp, we have applifecycle listeners. For each user that logs on, and when
the app is started, and when session variable is changed, you can specify a
function to run.
Is there something like this in Rails and any example code???

Subfolders in Rails applications (newbie)
After about a week playing with Rails, I have built a couple of apps but
am still unable to get one thing to work: subfolders. (I am probably
using the wrong term here, but oh well...)
I would like my rails application to have controllers logically grouped
into folders. So for instance:
http://domain.com/accounting/accounts
http://domain.com/hr/employees
Here''s how I have tried to

NEW RAILS SITE: Riding two bubbles at the same time
Today we finally opened the doors to "Street Easy" (http://
www.streeteasy.com/), a Real Estate Research Site for New York City.
It was built by two guys in three months. It doesn''t have tags, but
it has google maps. It rides two bubbles at the same time. It''s like
road kill: the price tags will shock you, but you won''t be able to
stop browsing around.

Callpickup works for outside calls but not inside calls
Hello, all. I've got a problem where we set up call pickup for a
customer. If the Bob's extension rings and Bob is in Jim's office, Bob
can press the button on his Snom 320 that says "Bob" and pick up his
line. It works great for calls coming in from the outside but does not
work for internal calls. Internal calls generate a

Save and delete buttons: POST vs. proximity dilemma
I''m in a dilemma: In order to keep GET requests from deleting objects,
I''d like to use the button_to helper to get "something" that generates
a POST request. Unfortunately, that something is a form and forms can''t
be nested.
I''d also like to place buttons related to the same form close to each
other. At the top are some navigational buttons
