acts_as_stateless ?
Is there such a thing that I could use to store sessions in the DB
instead of in a cookie so that I can ensure users will be able to
access their session data even across several load balancers? We use
totally stateless machines here at work and I am worried about
deploying a rails app in production that uses a volitile session
stored on the machine.
Any help is great!
Happy Holidays,
Mark

Liquid - form helpers? multiple liquid templates?
Hi,
Its taking me a long time to get my head around the Liquid plugin. I
have a couple of questions which hopefully someone can help me with...
- How difficult would it be to add some kind of Filter or Tag which
would allow other Liquid templates to be included into the current
Liquid template (eg. similar to render(:file => "filename")
- How difficult would it be to add

[OT] server partitioning question (rails + postgres)
Hi,
A bit off-topic, but I''m about to set up a remote Linux server
for Rails, with postgres and probably Lighttpd.
The server has two 120GB hard drives, one of which will just be
for nightly backups of the other.
I don''t intend to have any untrusted user accounts on the server.
The server will be dedicated to my own applications.
I''ll want to support lots of www

webrick / winxp won''t stop serving cached file??
Hi
Working through the tut material in teh PP book (agile dev with rails)
on a laptop running winxp.
Creating the "admin" application, things generally work great. Except:
at teh end of chapter 6, when we update teh css to improve the look of
the page - I copy the new scaffold.css into my working directory, but
webrick keeps serving the old css, even after a restart. Very odd. The

PDF::Writer using rpdf templates..
I''ve been implementing this:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/HowtoGeneratePDFs
[PDF::Writer section on using rpdf templates]
Strangest thing tho is that it doesn''t work with IE [get a ''server not
found'' error] - after reviewing the headers and such, I noticed that
there was no file name for the generated PDF in IE - so I made sure that
this was in

I need untyped associations
I am in the process of trying to migrate to ROR from a home grown ORM,
but one stumbling block is ActiveRecord''s typed associations and object
ID assignment scheme. In the home grown system, I have a master table
which *all* objects are packed into and a master associative table which
holds *all* associations. This allows each object, regardless of type,
to have a unique ID and thus it

Executing Ruby code that is inside a string
I would like to put Ruby code inside a string, between <%= %> tags, and
have the code inside the tags executed when the string is displayed. Is
this possible?

RE: Maintaining a Dev and a QA environment
Since I develop on one platform and my production servers will be on
another, I use virtualization a lot. You can use Microsoft Virtual PC,
or VMWare''s products. I am using Microsoft''s Virtual Server, which has
a free download, and a 180 day evaluation license. Despite the name, it
runs on Windows XP too.
With enough memory, I can run a QA system, or a full production

How about a forked session supervisor in dispatch.fcgi?
I was talking to a friend of mine who''s developing PHP on trax and we
came up with a solution to the ruby session file problem. I''m not
sure if this idea has come up before, so I wanted to run it by
everyone before making any code contributations and/or talking to the
Rails core about it.
It seems to me that the current situation we''re in with regard to

forms to pdf generation
hello Everyone,
would like to search this subject in the forms, but since search is
disabled I am posting this one. Any insight is much appreciated.
I am a newbie to ROR. Wondering what it takes to take a form that is
filled by a user and generate a PDF on the fly for his to save or print.
I am aware of some PDF libraries for PHP to accomplish this, but not
quite sure how to get this done

amrita2 usage

RMagick Resizing Issue
Hello ~
I have RMagick and file_column working in RoR. In my model I am setting up
some standard sizes for the submitted photos. The photo files are created
and named correctly, but the sizes are wrong. Only the second argument of
my geometry call is used, with the width dimension being resized
proportionately.

Login controller additions
I have added roles and roles_users table and updated the model so that
my users can have multiple roles.
("Admin" role does always have id = 1).
I have added these methods to my application controller.
<code>
helper_method :is_admin?
helper_method :is_user?
def is_admin?
if @session[''user'']
@session[''user''].roles.find(1)

MSSQL activerecord uses bad syntax
Hi all,
I''m trying to get rails up on mssql for a friend, does anyone have
experience? We''re working on a Windows XP box with MSSQL 2000 (no
service pak), and both rails (1.1) and MSSQL are on the same box. I''m
running into a bug (I think) where activerecord is using this syntax:
SELECT TOP 1 * FROM users WHERE (users.user = ''jbgnuumnbu'')

HABTM migrations
Bad rails day for Matt-
In a migration, for a habtm:
create_table :teams_users do |t|
t.column :team_id, :integer
t.column :user_id, :integer
end
Ok, fine. In a controller (well really a migration script):
@user.teams << Team.find( 3 )
And the SQL pumped at my server is:
INSERT INTO teams_users (`team_id`, `id`, `user_id`) VALUES (3, 3, 34)
Which
