Ideal Rails / Apache config?
Hi All,
Just about to set up RoR on our server and was wondering what the
ideal setup for RoR is these days? Apache 1? Apache 2? fCgi?
Any guidance would be helpful!
Thanks,

Needed - a step by step WAMP installation of Rails
I am finding the installation process for Rails a bit confusing. First
of all I want to use:
Windows 2000
Apache 1.3+
MySQL
The above is accomplished with WAMP5 from wampserver.com
The problem is that there is no complete step-by-step for installation
in this enviroment. The wiki instructions hop around from One-click to
Apache.conf and other items. Installing CGI support for languages on

Why not mod_ruby?
Hi!
I''ve understood that the mod_ruby apache module is not recommended for
running Ruby on Rails applications. But I haven''t found any information
as to why that is so. Please enlighten me. And could you point me to the
(currently) prefered production environment. (That can handle both RoR
and PHP sites).
Thank you and best regards

web server q -- playing nice w/ PHP
I have a webserver that''s happily running apache2 and PHP. I''d like to
deploy a site that I wrote using RoR on that same server but read that
there might be some conflicts with PHP and RoR trying to access the same
MySQL database.
How real are those conflicts? Could I mess up my running PHP site if I
install mod_ruby and try to use Apache2?
Would I be better off

Rails is slow on Apache !!!
Hi ,
I have rails running on my development machine. I have installed mod_ruby
and set up the httpd.conf file to add handlers for .rb files. But the speed
I get is still slow compared to webrick which is blazingly fast.
I have 2 questions
1. How do I determine if mod_ruby is loaded and is being used to run my ruby
scripts ?
2. Which of these fcgi /mod_ruby is faster ?
Thanks

Development without server restart?
I thought that Rails was supposed to allow development of an
application *without* having to restart the webserver? I know this
works in WEBRick ... but this doesn''t seem to be the case in Apache
(linux). Am I missing something here, or does this only work in
webrick?
I suppose one should argue that for development you should just use
webrick, but this wasn''t an option for me

Recognition Failure
I keep getting a Recognition failed for "/dispatch.fcgi" error. I
search for a solution and the closest I came to finding one was
someone saying "look at the Rewrite in .htaccess and you''ll be able
to figure it out." Well, I can''t! If anyone could help, I would
appreciate it.
Thanks!

Trying to do a simple thing ...
Hi !
I was talking to a seasider and he asked me if it was easy to do the following
thing using rails :
1) ask a number to the user
2) ask a second number
3) give the addition of the two number and a link to be able to replay
All these things have to be done in one controller and one action, there is no
need for verification and other stuff.
I tried but I''ve got some problems

RoR on Apache2
Hello,
I''ve been going though the "4 Days on Rails" tutorial at
http://rails.homelinux.org/ test-driving ruby on rails using the WEBrick
server without problems. I''m trying to move the app to be seen by
apache2, and am having some troubles. I''ve looked through many guides
online which all say pretty much the same thing, which, I think, I am
doing.

Finally got fcgi installed with apache. Now whe I click on "About your
application''s environment" on the Rails Welcome page, it simply prints
out the dispatch.fcgi script as shown below. I would appreciate any help

Can''t get fcgi working with Apache2 on Mac OS X
I have an application that works fine in development mode under plain
old CGI and I''m trying to get it running under FCGI with multiple hours
of frustration. Lately, I am running dispatch.fcgi standalone from the
command line. It gives me a not very helpful one line error message;
Status: 500 Internal Server Error
The log file produces a not very helpful 2 line message;

Apache2.2 + what to get Rails
Me: not experienced with Rails or Ruby,
Problem: Ubuntu 9.04 server in my shop ...couldn''t get Apache2.2 +
Passenger + Rails to work for Redmine. (No answer at Redmine list and
I don''t think its their problem anyway). Also couldn''t get Apache2.2
and just Rails to work, though some people said it would. Webrick
works.
Goal: run Redmine on a server that also runs PHP

Recommend server for developing RoR on win
Hi all,
can you recommend me which web server config to use for developing rails
on windows machine. I tried webrick, which is good but it''s annoying
because console window is in taskbar for every site running and it have
to be started manually. Apache with CGI is to slow and using FastCGI on
the other side brings me lot of problems, like randomly not working RoR
sites.

Hi,
I just installed mod_fcgid on my apache2 server.
When I try to load my application I get an

Public Directory not accessible
Been trying to deploy my rails app on Redhat ES3, Apache2, FastCGI with
Plesk all day. Fun stuff. Basically, the issue that I can not solve has
to do with access to /public. None of my images, javascripts, etc. are
working in the app. Trying to access any of these results in a 404 (or
routing error if in developer mode). Oddly, the 404 file it displays is

A Nightmare on Rails Street: Windows Lives!
Just spent 40+ hours in two days deploying my app on Windows 2000. Not
all the time was Apache/MySql related, but a significant portion was.
What a nightmare that was. Unfortunately, the customer is dead-set on
"standardizing" by using Windows. So, as I sat there between a Linux
box and an AIX box working on this thing, I ran into problems, part of
which were:
CGI was slow (Dell
