The contrast and Design libraries
Dear all,
I have been using the contrast library in my teaching for the last couple
of years and am right in the middle of this year's round. In the last week
R has been updated to version 2.14.0 on our computers. This has had the
unfortunate effect of meaning the contrasts library no longer works, as
the Design library is no longer available. I wonder if anyone has a fix
for this...or

How to test impact of candidate changes to package?
I use a package to contain simple functions that can be handled by unit tests for correctness and more complex functions that combine the simple functions with business logic. Where there are proposals to change either the simple functions or the business logic, a sample needs to be run before the change and then after it to understand the impact of the change.

Help: R seg faults
Dear list,
I hope this is the right forum to ask. I have just downloaded and compiled
R, but I get a segfault after I start R.
make, make test/check, went OK.
My system is
linux-2.2.13
glibc-2.1.3
gcc 2.95.2
R-1.1.0
Here is a backtrace from gdb:

Server question
Hi
A client of mine has asked me to investigate the installation of R-software.
Could anyone tell me whether the software works only on a client machine or
whether it sits on a server with clients attaching to it?
Not immediately clear from the docs.

temporary problems with authorization in windows domain

I discovered a bug in the inetd that comes with NetKit-B-0-08 and older.
If a single SYN is sent to port 13 of the server, inetd will die of Broken
Pipe:
