The contrast and Design libraries
Dear all, I have been using the contrast library in my teaching for the last couple of years and am right in the middle of this year's round. In the last week R has been updated to version 2.14.0 on our computers. This has had the unfortunate effect of meaning the contrasts library no longer works, as the Design library is no longer available. I wonder if anyone has a fix for this...or

How to test impact of candidate changes to package?
I use a package to contain simple functions that can be handled by unit tests for correctness and more complex functions that combine the simple functions with business logic. Where there are proposals to change either the simple functions or the business logic, a sample needs to be run before the change and then after it to understand the impact of the change. I do this currently by 1. Using

Server question
Hi A client of mine has asked me to investigate the installation of R-software. Could anyone tell me whether the software works only on a client machine or whether it sits on a server with clients attaching to it? Not immediately clear from the docs. temporary problems with authorization in windows domain
Greetings, I've been debugging the following scenario for some time now, and I'm slowly runing out of ideas. If anyone would suggest anything helpful... I'd be grateful. Anyway, here's the setup: windows 2003 AD domain running in 'windows 2003 native' mode + a few Solaris 8 servers with Samba 3.0.0. All sambas have computer accounts in windows' domain, and have

dos-attack on inetd.
Hi. I don''t know if this one is known, but I can''t recall seeing anything about it. If it is old news I apologize. I discovered a bug in the inetd that comes with NetKit-B-0-08 and older. If a single SYN is sent to port 13 of the server, inetd will die of Broken Pipe: write(3, "Sun Jan 12 21:50:35 1997\r\n", 26) = -1 EPIPE (Broken pipe) --- SIGPIPE (Broken pipe) ---

Hi all, I hope this will reach those that can help or change things, IF it is a bug/''feature'' issue. At least it seems like it to a newbie like me. BACKGROUND:: I have a basic html file in [ /app/views/layouts/application.rhtml ] that contains this <html> <%= render ''shared/header'' %> </html I then have a component [

validates_format_of :something, :with => /REGEX/
Hi all, I''m hoping to stir the Rails pot a little bit here, so please go easy with me ;-) Regular Expressions is the most densely inhumane language construct ever invented in any ''civilisation'', and the fact that we still have to dirty our minds with this in Rails is something that (sh/c)ould ideally be corrected in Rails (preferably before the release of 1.2
