optimization and gradient
Dear all,
I am using the functions 'optim' and 'nlminb'. For both, you can provide
a function which computes the gradient of the objective function (to
enhance speed and precision). In my case, both the objective function
and the gradient take time to be computed and share many common
computations (similar matrix, products, etc...). Therefore, I have to
compute these

package functions documentation
Dear all,
I am currently creating a package and writing the documention files for
some functions (the main functions). When using R CMD check myPackage, I
get a warning message indicating that some of my functions are not
documented. How can I get rid of this problem? Of course, I don't want
to document every function in the package...
Thanks for your help.

Passing Inf from R to C using .C("myLibC"...
Dear all,
How can I pass '-Inf' and 'Inf' values from R to C code using the
function '.C(...)'. When running my code, I get an error since C does
not recognize -Inf and Inf values. Of course, I could use instead a very
low (or high) number, but I was wondering whether a more elegant
solution exists. Thanks for your help.

AdMit 1.00-02
'AdMit' 1.00-02 is a contributed R package which provides functions to
perform the fitting of an
adaptive mixture of Student-t distributions to a target density through
its kernel function.
The mixture approximation can then be used as the importance density
in importance sampling or as the candidate density in the
Metropolis-Hastings algorithm to
obtain quantities of interest for the

R - MATLAB apply like function
Dear all,
I very often use the R function "apply", for speedup purposes. I am now also using MATLAB, and would like to use the same kind of function.
I have already asked MATLAB people, and the answer is : "vectorize"... but of course, this is not always possible. So, instead of using
a FOR loop all the time, I tried using the bsxfun. So you R people, who might also use MATLAB,

password change, domain not available
Dear Herman,
We had the same problems over here.
The problem seems to be related to Windows Hotfix KB828741.
Removing the hotfix through the control panel solved it for us.

question
Hi,
I have a problem with R, after an update:
this piece of code:
cat("creating resolver data frame\n");
dfG<-cbind(dfG,2^(RGN$G))
dfR<-cbind(dfR,2^(RGN$R))
suddenly, creates values to inf.
Is the syntax changed for the ^ symbol in the latest R downloadable version?
Kind regards, wilfred

Haplo.Stats: error (recursive default argument reference)
Dear colleagues,
I face a problem doing haplotype analyses with haplostats: when I use
the haplo.em function, the programme gives an error message because of
'recursive default argument reference.' I am not able to figure out what
this means. Could you perhaps help me?
The full output is the following:

DEoptim 2.0-0
Dear All,
We are happy to announce the release of the new version of DEoptim
(version 2.0-0) which is now available from CRAN.
The DEoptim package [3] performs Differential Evolution (DE) minimization,
a genetic algorithm-based optimization technique [2,3]. This allows robust
minimization over a continuous (bounded or not) domain.
The new DEoptim function calls a C implementation of the DE

Copy & Paste from tktext on Mac
Hi there,
a text Window is supposed to map the shortcuts for copying and pasting
(<Ctrl-C>, <Ctrl-V>) automatically.
I'm working under Mac OS X and my text window doesn't really map these
functions automatically - it works fine under Windows. Is there an
easy way to map copy&paste functions to a text window under Mac OS X?
This is what I'm doing with my text

tftpd server
Hi
In the pxelinux page, is referred that the tftpd server from
http://tftpd32.jounin.net as working with pxelinux.
However, from the tests I've made, it seems that the 'tsize' option is not
supported.
Anyone has knowledge of a working TFTPD server that runs on Windows NT4?
p.s. it can be shareware, I just want to test it with NT4, I have had
success with the 'builtin'

using object.find() in a loop not returning an array
I''m running a loop (illustrated below) that retrieves records from a
table based on an id that might be different with each iteration. The
loop uses the array scrns (composed of IDs) to find the related records
in the Screens table. I''m attempting to store the returned results in
an instance variable so I can use that data in a view. However, this
code simply is overwriting

screensavers in general
Hi,
I tried some windows screensavers with Wine.
Most screensavers start with the configuration screen without a possibility to start the main
screensaver part.
It's the same thing when I rename a screensaver file from 'somewhat.scr' to 'somewhat.exe' and
try to run it with a doubleclick on my Windows 2000 PC. (*.scr: the screensaver starts, *.exe: the configuration screen

Dear R users,
I'm a bit perplexed with the effect sort has here, as it is different on
Windows vs. linux.
It makes my factor levels and subsequent plots different on the two systems.
