[offtopic] idea status.net
Hey all I was sitting here thinking about things and I came up with an idea that sounded, at least in my head, like a good one. There has been a boom in things like twitter and brainbird and social networking setups in general. I was wondering if the project or anyone would be interested in setting up a status.net server specifically for the CentOS project ? Why? you ask, well here are some of

Test errors without verification
I''m not sure if this is by design, but I''ve stumbled across this a few times trying to debug my own tests. If an assertion fails the test, and a mock expectation was to blame, the test''s failure / error messages don''t give enough info. I''ve had to resort to def teardown mocha_verify end which just gets tedious. I''ve created a patch

Offtopic: Mailing List was harvested
Just a quick note to those who care, I received a UCE this morning addressed to samba-337@ccp.com.au, the only place this was used was when emailing to this list. I can only conclude that either the list itself was harvested or someone has gone through the archive and harvested that. The Email actually came from 200.171.136.80 which has an abuse email address of abuse@telesp.net.br The Email

OFFTOPIC: Ioannidis et. al. on non-reproducible research
**** OFFTOPIC **** These links were sent to me by a friend and are kind of a followup to Sarah Goslee's recent off topic post on the Rogoff Excel spreadsheet goof, which I appreciated, that I hope will be of interest to this list's readers. I apologize if I have taken too much license. I will also crosspost it to stackexchange, where it is more appropriate. **Please reply privately if

New Doc Status
I know it''s been a few weeks since Nick asked me to work on new wxRuby document output from the xml file in the wxruby-swig source tree. So I''m updating the list so you know that it is underway. A new wxRuby API is coming!! I have the parsing complete, and I am trying to make this be most-beneficial to the wxRuby community. Perhaps someone reading this may have an

Why is the camping handler using Mutex#synchronize to serve requests? I was under the impression that camping was considered more thread safe than Rails? -Zach

vorbis_encode_init() bitrate arguments - offtopic
Hi, It's a bit offtopic for this list, but you might be able to help. For libvorbis rc3, what is the correct bitrate parametrization for the call vorbis_encode_init()? For rc2, it worked calling it the following way: vorbis_encode_init( &vorbisInfo, 2, // two channels 44100, // 44.1kHz

[OFFTOPIC] Need small PC
This is completely offtopic, but well, I run the list so there :) Please respond directly to me and not to the list, though, to save the people who don't want to listen to this discussion. I am looking for a small PC with very specific criteria; these machines are going into an industrial setting (which I cannot explain in detail); I was hoping someone on this list might have experience with

offtopic: possible asterisk meeting saturday amsterdam
hello everyone, theres a bi-monthly computer fair in amsterdam on saturday and it looks like a few asterisk users will be attending, and hopefully some more might be able to turn up. admittedly this probably is a bad idea to advertise because the more asterisk people the less likely i am to find cheap AVM Fritz ISDN cards - but what the hell. if you feel like a chat, and want to avoid the

[OFFTOPIC] integrated LSI 3008 :: number of hdd support
In my experience the mass market HBAs and RAID cards typically do support only 8 or 16 drives. For the internal variety in a standard rack-mount server you'll usually see either 2 or 4 iPass cables (each of which support 4 drives) connected to the backplane. The marketing material you've referenced has a white lie in it: supporting more than 16 drives on a single card is very likely only

Offtopic: 3ware Raid Controllers
Hi! I know this is a little bit offtopic, but i couldn't think of any other place where i can get uninfluenced first hand information on these controllers :) I've read about and experienced data loss/system lockup with older 3ware controllers, but the 3ware Escalade 7xxx (i'm especially interested in the 7850) sounds too good to ignore it (8 channels, 8 drives, raid 0/1/5/10,
