Today I downloaded the latest source code release R-2.3.1.tar.gz, and it seems
not to contain the VR bundle. After running ./configure I get the following

cannot load MASS in Etch
Hi All,
I hate to do this (because I always found the R/Debian combo exceptional and I
never had the time to ontribute --sorry about that--), BUT, the latest r-cran-vr
for Etch (testing) is
dpkg -l | grep r-cran-vr

R-beta: problem installing packages
Hello,
I have installed Venables & Ripley's VR_5.3pl025-1 in RHOME/library/VR and
added the path to my RLIBS environmental variable. In R (0.62.2) typing
"library()" lists these packages, but typing e.g. "library(nnet)" gets
"Warning: Package 'nnet' contains no R code".
It appears to me the code is there and I have checked the permissions and

make check-all does not find DESCRIPTION for VR packages
When running make check-all on R-1.9.0beta (2004-03-31) built with

FYI: Problems while loading package "class (VR)"
Hi,
Today, I performed automatic updates of packages and somehow lost "class"
package. I loaded a library that depended on it and got:
Error: package 'class' could not be loaded
In addition: Warning message: there is no package called 'class' in:
library(pkg, character.only = TRUE, logical = TRUE, lib.loc = lib.loc)
I tried to load it by instal-package: class (VR) and

MASS (and class, nnet, spatial) for R 2.10.0 ?
Maybe I missed an announcement somewhere but having started with the usual
practice of putting R pre-releases into Debian unstable leading up to the
release of the next R version, I now find myself unable to do my daily
package maintenance as I only see VR 7.2-49 with its
Depends: R (? 2.5.0), R (? 2.9.2)
preventing use on R 2.10.0. That stopped the update of the Debian package

Dependency problem bug with r-cran-vr
Hi,
I was trying to connect GRASS with R, following the guidelines described here:
http://grass.osgeo.org/wiki/R_statistics
The line in my /etc/apt/sources.list is like:
deb http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/cran/bin/linux/debian squeeze-cran/
But when I tried to install r-cran-vr, I got an unmet dependency
problem with r-cran-mass and r-cran-class.
But these two packages were already installed. Then why

RMySQL installed but not availalable
I don't use MySQL but I have seen messages like this before. They often have replies which indicate that you need to follow the instructions more closely. I suggest you search the list for these previous posts as I'm sure there is help there, somewhere!

move or copy the directories mass, nnet and class to the library directory

Now execute library(MASS) and data(petrol)
Should work.

I am having trouble compiling R-2.6.2 on suse linux x86_64 using the

nnet 10-fold cross-validation
Hi
It clear that to do a classification with svm under 10-fold cross
validation one uses
svm(Xm, newlabs, type = "C-classification", kernel = "linear",cross =
10)
What corresponds to the nnet?
nnet(.....,cross=10)?

random forests for R
Hi all,
There is now a package available on CRAN that provides an R interface to Leo
Breiman's random forest classifier.
Basically, random forest does the following:

than number of variables.
2. For i = 1 to ntree:
3. Draw a bootstrap sample from the data. Call those not in the bootstrap
