Fwd: Learning advanced R
I've found two problems in interpreting adv-r-master/book/build-book.r:
1. All pathes in build-book.r refer to the starting-directory "adv-r-master". However, the script build-book.r is located in the directory "book", which is located in directory "adv-r-master". Therefore, pathes starting at "." are wrong (should start at "..").

Hi Albrecht,
I am forwarding your reply to the full group.
It's been a while since I did this and I don't remember the details. Maybe
someone else can comment. (I am a bit busy at the moment.)
If no one supplies the information in a few days I will try to take a look.
In the meantime you can start your reading on-line. :-)

I recommend reading it directly via the website, or buying the book.
If you are trying to build a PDF, then the "obvious" question is whether you have LaTeX installed, which is an operating-system-dependent procedure handled outside of R.

maps for Russian Federation
Dear all,
I am interested in plotting maps visualizing spatial statistics in an
aggregated fashion, according to administrative boundaries. Partially, I
want to visualize some spatial data for administrative units (autonomous
republics, oblasts, krays) of the Russian Federation on a geographical
map.
I have found the maps package (and related) and would like to use this
package e.g. in a kind

Dear Duncan,
thank you very much, that is it! Indeed, there was activated in my
internet router the "telekom navigation help". When I am (or the system
is) looking for an not existent url, this "help" opens its own website.
After deactivation of telekom navigation help, the normal message
(server not found) comes. I never gave attention to this "help",

Information about compatibility R
Hi Albrecht, thanks for your return.
I'm using the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) PATCHLEVEL = 4 and not the openSUSE. Do you know if exist a compatibility list of R and Linux version? In the site
https://cran.r-project.org is informed only about the R version 3.4.4 for SLE12 but not about the previous versions. I can't upgrade for SLE12 and I would like know what is the last

Dear Jeff,
Latex is also required for the R-manuals in the base R installation, and for this it works fine on my PC.
Best,

sp: proj4string has no impact
Hi all,
I'm faced with a problem applying the sp package: The projection argument in
readShapePoly(Shapefile,proj4string="CRS class argument")
e.g.: CRS("+proj=aea +lat_1=46 +lat_2=73 +lat_0=60 +lon_0=84 +x_0=0
+y_0=0 +ellps=clrk66 +units=m +no_defs")
doesn't have any impact on the plotted object. I also tested the simple
example:
xy = cbind(x = 2 * runif(100) -

ESRI shapefiles and EMME/2 packages
I just uploaded two packages to CRAN.
shapefiles_0.1.tar.gz - functions to read and write ESRI shapefiles
(including dbfs)
emme2_0.1.tar.gz - functions to read binary data from an EMME/2 databank
data (EMME/2 is a transportation modeling program)
Please let me know if you find any bugs or have some suggestions. Thanks.

[ESS] R window: Text is read only (: Another round :)
Dear All
Working along in R (Emacs {Aquamacs}, ESS ) usually I am getting a long
R buffer with many rows. To reduce its length, I used to select
backwards and delete those unnecessary rows. Now I cannot do that, only
C-k allows single lines to be deleted. the mode line says 'Text is
read-only *R*>'. Both R and ESS are up to date.

Hi all,
after compiling R-3.4.2 on opensuse leap 42.3, make check failed. Until
R-3.4.1 I never had a problem with these tests. No, the programm stops
at the following line of tests/reg-tests-1d.R:

ESRI Shapefile reader (help with dlls)
Hi,
I am working on a library of map functions for R and I have started
with code to read shapefiles (the format is not great but it is ubiquitous).
I am not a windows person, but where I am working I don't have access to
any UNIX machines easily. So here's the problem I wrote C code to read
the information out of the shapefile header and I compiled it using
the script given in Ripley and

rgdal: Convert ESRI ArcGis geo database (gdb directory) to geojson, or shapefile map
Hello,
I have an ESRI ArGis geo database directory which I would like to convert
to geojson or a shape file (or anything else that I can read into R).
Unfortunately that does not work out of the box with rgdal, because it does
not come with the fileGDB or openfileGDB driver.
I could successfully install gdal and the fileGDB driver/extension, but it
seems that i can use gdal only to convert the

I am working on some data from a study on the habitat use and movement patterns of fish using a marine protected area in Hawaii.? We have a number of acoustic receivers in a MPA, and any time a tagged fish passes within range it records the date and time of detection.? I am trying to make bubble plots?showing the number of detections for each fish at each receiver.? I have been
