I am using spss.get to import an SPSS database
"Data.sav", created with SPSS 14 :
df1 <- spss.get("C:/temp/Data.sav" , lowernames=TRUE,
datevars = c("dateinte"))
I am getting this warning. I get the same warning with
read.spss.

Updated comparison table for SAS-SPSS Add-ons and R Functions
Hi All,
I have substantially expanded the table that compares SAS and SPSS
add-on modules to somewhat equivalent R packages. This new version is
at:
http://r4stats.com/add-on-modules
and I would very much appreciate any feedback you might have on it.
The site http://r4stats.com is the replacement to
http://RforSASandSPSSusers.com and includes the support files for both

Popularity of R, SAS, SPSS, Stata...
Hi All,
I've been fiddling around with various ways to estimate the popularity
of R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, JMP, Minitab, Statistica, Systat, BMDP, S-PLUS,
R-PLUS and Revolution R. It's not an easy task. You can see what I've
come up with so far at http://r4stats.com/popularity . I'm sure people
will have plenty of ideas on how to improve this, so please let me know
what you think.

Included are 27 programs written in all three languages (i.e. 81 total)
so that people can see how R works compared to the other two, task by

aggregate similar to SPSS
Hi,
Does anyone know if: with R can you take a set of numbers and aggregate
them like you can in SPSS? For example, could you calculate the percentage
of people who smoke based on a dataset like the following:
smoke = 1
non-smoke = 2
variable
1
1
1
2
2
1
1
1
2
2

When aggregated, SPSS can tell you what percentage of persons are smokers
based on the frequency of 1's and 2's. Can

Transfer Crosstable to Word-Document
# Dear list,
# I am an R-beginner and
# spent the last days looking for a method to insert tables produced
# with R into a word document. I thought about SPPS: copy a table from
# an SPO-file and paste it into a word document
# (if needed do some formatting with that table).
# Annother idea was, to produce a TEX-file,
# insert it and make it a word-table.
# I found the following libraries, which

# Rename individual list items?

SAS, SPSS Product Comparison Table
Hi All,
My paper "R for SAS and SPSS Users" received a bit more of a reaction
than I expected. I posted the link
(http://oit.utk.edu/scc/RforSAS&SPSSusers.pdf) about 12 days ago on
R-help and the equivalent SAS and SPSS lists. Since then people have
downloaded it 5,503 times and I've gotten lots of questions along the
lines of, "Surely R can't do for free what [fill in

SAS for R-users
There are loads of resources for users of any other
statistics package who are learning R. For example
http://www.google.com/search?q="r+for+sas-users"
The reverse isn't the case
http://www.google.com/search?q="sas+for+r-users"
Having heard rumors of how unelegant other statistics
packages are, I don't see why any R-user would
ever want to switch to anything else.

Dealing with NaN's in data frames
I am looking for the most efficient way to replace all occurrences of NaN in a data frame with NA. I can do this with a double loop, but it seems that there should be a higher level and more efficient way. With is.na, I could use ifelse, but if.nan seems not to have similar capabilities.
TIA,
Jon Peck

Reading data entered within an R program
Dear R-helpers,
I know of two ways to reading data within an R program, using
textConnection and stdin (demo program below). I've Googled about and
looked in several books for comparisons of the two approaches but
haven't found anything. Are there any particular advantages or
disadvantages to these two approaches? If you were teaching R beginners,
which would you present?
Thanks,

re ad.spss (foreign) conflict with SPSS 17 files.
SPSS seems to have changed its default datafile format, resulting in issues
for read.spss(). In Windows this results in a warning, in Debian the import
completely fails:

read.spss (package foreign) and SPSS 15.0 files
Hello,
does anyone have experience with reading SPSS Version 15.0 files into R (version 2.4.1, WinXP)?
I have long been sucessfully reading SPSS files with read.spss from the wonderful foreign package, but somehow after upgrading from SPSS14 to SPSS15 I seem to have problems.
Trying a simple example, where test.sav is a SPSS 15.0 data file consisting of x1=c(1,2,3) and
