Using tapply to create a new table
All, I'm sure that this is covered somewhere, but I can't seem to find a good explanation. I have an existing table that contains information grouped by date. This is as so: Day NumberOfCustomers NumberOfComplaints 20060512 10040 40 20060513 32420 11 ... I also have a table at the detail level as so: Day Meal PricePaid UsedCupon 20060512 Fish 14 Y 20060512 Chicken 20 N

OT: Problem rotating logs with lighttpd
Hi everybody, this is a little OT. We are using Lighttpd as a webserver for Rails. Our problem is that when we rotate the logs everyday at the end of the process, lighttpd stops writing the logs. To solve this we have to restart the server manually each time. We use a common Debian, lighttpd-1.4.7, Rails 1.0 and fcgi-2.4.0. I have tracked the lighttpd bugs, and I haven''t found

So I get the results (the parameters of a garch process) and I want to eMail them to another person. How can I do that? bat files
Just a question, should it be possible to run bat files with wine. Basically the application is java, I know the java will run under windows. I also know that java will run under linux natively, but I am curious if this is possible to start under wine. I get wine: can't exec 'blue.bat': invalid exe file.

bioinformatics repository?
Hi all, I'm new to Centos, just moved here from Gentoo Linux. I have to install a server for bioinformatics purposes and I see that default yum repositories do not include any bioinformatics software (i.e. ncbi-toolkit, blat, and others). I'm googling a bit but I can't find a valuable solution: which is (or which are) the best repository I should add to have a satisfying list

Small aix patch to configure.in
The following aix patch to configure.in forces /usr/include to be searched before /usr/local/include on AIX systems only. This allows the normal include rules to untangle <login.h> from "login.h" on AIX when using the AIX cc compiler or gcc. Please see that it gets applied to the current cvs source tree. It fixes the only compile time error the current cvs tree has on aix with

Stock Price Correlation to Index Price Levels
Hi, This is probably trivial to most people out there, but I'm struggling with this. I have a data set which contains the closing prices (properly adjusted for dividends and splits) for several hundred securities and the closing prices for a general stock market index (S&P 500). I have no problem getting it into R with RODBC and manipulating it. There are no missing values. I can

Ah, album art. People won't shup up about it, even though it has always been theoretically possible to embed pictures in Ogg. I hope we can establish this year how to do

Why do we use /usr/lib/python to install python libraries?
This seems exceptionally evil and is definitely a PITA. What was the original problem that led us to do this? I''d like to take a stab at correcting it so we can have a more sane installation. mutt execution by daemon
I have a user w/o a shell that runs an app as a daemon that needs to use mutt to email an attachment from a script. During testing when the app was ran as root everything worked:) Now that we obviously are running as a user w/o a shell this little bit broke. I used mutt as I needed to send the attachment as mime, and the ability to specify a muttrc from the cli when executed was useful so we
