What's wrong with my code ?
I try to code the ULS factor analysis descrbied in ftp://ftp.spss.com/pub/spss/statistics/spss/algorithms/ factor.pdf # see PP5-6 factanal.fit.uls <- function(cmat, factors, start=NULL, lower = 0.005, control = NULL, ...) { FAfn <- function(Psi, S, q) { Sstar <- S - diag(Psi) E <- eigen(Sstar, symmetric = TRUE, only.values = TRUE) e <- E$values[-(1:q)] e <-

Two 3D cones in one graph
Dear R-users: The following code produces two cones in two panels. What I would like to have is to have them in one, and to meet in the origin. Does anyone have any good ideas how to do this? Thanks for your help Jaakko library(lattice) A<-matrix(ncol=2, nrow=64) for(i in 0:63) { A[i+1,1]<-sin(i/10) A[i+1,2]<-cos(i/10) }

Using MLE on a somewhat unusual likelihood function
So I am trying to use the mle command (from stats4 package) to estimate a number of parameters using data but it keeps throwing up this error message: Error in solve.default(oout$hessian) : Lapack routine dgesv: system is exactly singular: U[1,1] = 0 This error sometimes indicates that the list of starting values is too far from optimum but this is unlikely since I picked values close to where

Addendum to wishlist bug report #10931 (factanal) (PR#12754)
--=-hiYzUeWcRJ/+kx41aPIZ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Hi, on March 10 I filed a wishlist bug report asking for the inclusion of some changes to factanal() and the associated print method. The changes were originally proposed by John Fox in 2005; they make print.factanal() display factor correlations if factanal() is called with rotation =

Error with grad() for numerical differential of a function
Hello everyone, I have programmed a function and, among other things, it has to compute the differential of a function. I have been using the function grad() and I have programmed some simulated studies. I have testes with 72,576 different combinations of the initial values and now I got an error in only 4 situations. The error comes from the function grad() and I don't understand why. This

Problem with Stationary Bootstrap
Dear R experts,   I'm running the following stationary bootstrap programming to find the parameters estimate of a linear model:     X<-runif(10,0,10) Y<-2+3*X a<-data.frame(X,Y) coef<-function(fit){   fit <- lm(Y~X,data=a)    return(coef(fit)) }  result<- tsboot(a,statistic=coef(fit),R = 10,n.sim = NROW(a),sim = "geom",orig.t = TRUE)   Unfortunately, I got this

Where is package "Umacs"?
We were promised this package last spring but I can't find it anywhere! Does anyone have any info? Thanks. >From RNews: "Umacs (Universal Markov chain sampler) is an R package (to be released in Spring 2006) that facilitates the construction of the Gibbs sampler and Metropolis algorithm for Bayesian inference ..." -- View this message in context:

Cross classified or Multiple membership or Hierarchical (3 level ) logistic models using Umacs
Dear R users, I would like to fit cross classified or multiple membership logistic models or a 3 level hierarchical logistic model using the Umacs package. Can anyone advise me on how to proceed or better point me to examples of how its done. Factor correlations in factanal
Dear R-devel list members, Ben Fairbank draw it to my attention that factanal() (in the stats package) doesn't report factor correlations for oblique rotations. Looking at the source, I see that factanal also doesn't save the factor-transformation (rotation) matrix from which these correlations can be computed. I've modified the source, attached below, so that the transformation

Solving two nonlinear equations with two knowns
Dear R users, I have two nonlinear equations, f1(x1,x2)=0 and f2(x1,x2)=0. I try to use optim command by minimize f1^2+f2^2 to find x1 and x2. I found the optimal solution changes when I change initial values. How to solve this? BTW, I also try to use grid searching. But I have no information on ranges of x1 and x2, respectively. Any suggestion to solve this question? Thanks, Kate

samba pdc & ldap without roaming profiles
Hi list At the momtent I use samba as a pdc with tdbsam as passwd backend. I plan to use ldap and I already tried it out. Unfortunately I didn't find a way to disable roaming profiles. I used the smbldap tools. First there is the question if I should use add user script = /usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd -m "%u" with the -a (is a Windows User) option. If I don't, then windows account

paquete Rcmdr y BiodiversityR

Replication Failure Issue
G'day All, I have 4 DCs on Centos 7.1. Everything was working really well for years, including replication. Then I decided that the OS needed updating. Did the yum update on one of the DCs, rebooted. That server is now running Centos 7.4. Samba seemed to start okay. However, samba-tool drs showrepl gives this error on all 3 of the other DCs, and shows success on the updated DC.

Gelman 2006 half-Cauchy distribution
Hi, I am trying to recreate the right graph on page 524 of Gelman's 2006 paper "Prior distributions for variance parameters in hierarchical models" in Bayesian Analysis, 3, 515-533. I am only interested, however, in recreating the portion of the graph for the overlain prior density for the half-Cauchy with scale 25 and not the posterior distribution. However, when I try:

Register spilling fix for experimental 6502 backend
So I've been designing an experimental 6502 backend for LLVM. Link: <https://github.com/beholdnec/llvm-m6502> The 6502 only has a few registers, one accumulator and two indexes, none of which are large enough to hold an absolute pointer. Because of this, the backend really tests the power of LLVM's register allocator (RA). I've made a change to the RA that might be of interest

OpenSSH is not asking for passwords.
I am trying to use shfs to mount a remote root filesystem for a diskless workstation. The system downloads its kernel and initrd from a server. I have tried repeatedly to get a working installation of ssh on the initrd with no success. I finally got ssh to connect to the server. Normally when I use ssh the session goes as follows [arrummzen at localhost LFS-BOOK-6.0-HTML]$ ssh 192.168.11.10 -l

too many close calls for non-opened fds
Hello All, I'm using OpenSSH 4.3p2 in HP-UX 11.23. On running tusc (a tool to trace system calls and signals) on sshd, I found lot of close calls upto 2047. Those close calls try to close a non-opened file descriptor and results in an error. This behaviour is seen only from OpenSSH 3.9 where closefrom() call is introduced to close the file descriptors before re-exec. The fix is to check
