Help needed on calculation of Moran's I
Hi, I am trying to calculate Moran's I test for the residuals for a regression equation, but I have trouble converting my coordinates into nb format. I have used the dnearneigh() funtion now with an arbitrarily high upper distance to make it include all plots. However, when I do the lm.morantest() I get a Moran's I value which is the same as the expected value and a P-value of 1. I

Difference between AIC in GLM and GLS - not an R question
Hi, I have fitted a model using a glm() approach and using a gls() approach (but without correcting for spatially autocorrelated errors). I have noticed that although these models are the same (as they should be), the AIC value differs between glm() and gls(). Can anyone tell me why they differ? Thanks, Geertje ~~~~ Geertje van der Heijden PhD student Tropical Ecology School of Geography

Spatially Lagged Predictor Variable Models
Hi Everyone, I am doing a project based on "Spatially Lagged Predictor Variable Models", I would like to know which package in R would execute this model. Also, I am new to this field of spatial statistics. Any suggestions for a good book on spatial regression analysis would be appreciated. Thanks Again. Cheers Arun -- View this message in context:

Robust linear models and unequal variance
Hi all, I have probably a basic question, but I can't seem to find the answer in the literature or in the R-archives. I would like to do a robust ANCOVA (using either rlm or lmRob of the MASS and robust packages) - my response variable deviates slightly from normal and I have some "outliers". The data consist of 2 factor variables and 3-5 covariates (fdepending on the model).

Question about lmRob
Hi, I am trying to fit a ANCOVA model using lmRob. The P-values of the variables in the model differ hugely between the summary() function and the anova() function (from >0.8 in the summary to <0.001in the anova for the same variable). I understand that with an ANCOVA the order in which the variables are added to the model matters and that this influences the P-value, but can this make such

Spatial Autocorrelation for point data
Hi R helpers, Is there a function (package?) in R available which tests "spatial autocorrelation" between points (e.g. vector layer of weather stations)? (e.g. Moran's I...) Via the archives we found out that there is a package 'spdep' which uses grid data for testing spatial autocorrelation. Thanks a lot, Jan

a question about spatial autocorrelation in R
Dear all, I am currently facing a problem related to the spatial autocorrelation of a sample of stations; these stations supply weekly data for a fixed time-window during the year (namely, 4-6 months per year). For this reason I'm trying to use the R package 'spdep' (specifically Moran's I) in order to get rid of it. Does anyone know how is it possible (if it is...) to

Newbie Question: Spatial Autocorrelation with R Tutorial?
Howdy All, I am looking for some good tutorials (books, websites, whatever) for calculating/testing for Spatial Autocorrelation using R. Specifically, I am wanting to test for autocorrelation of a number of variables measured at a set of discrete locations. Up to this point I have been exploring the "spdep" package and I can get "moran.test" to work, but I am concerned that

lme, lmer, gls, and spatial autocorrelation
Hello folks, I have some data where spatial autocorrelation seems to be a serious problem, and I'm unclear on how to deal with it in R. I've tried to do my homework - read through 'The R Book,' use the online help in R, search the internet, etc. - and I still have some unanswered questions. I'd greatly appreciate any help you could offer. The super-super short explanation is

Creating artificial environmental landscape with spatial autocorrelation
Dear all: Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a spatially explicit landscape with spatial autocorrelation in R? In other words, a landscape where all cells have a spatial reference, and the environment values that are closer in space are more similar (positive spatial autocorrelation). Thank you, Laura

Autocorrelation and t-tests
Hi, I have two sets of data for a given set of (non-lattice) locations. I would like to know whether the two are significantly different. This would be simple enough if it wasn't for the fact that the data is spatially autocorrelated. I have come across several possible solutions (including Cliff & Ord which however appears to be for gridded data), or using gls. However, they don't

nlme, MASS and geoRglm for spatial autocorrelation?
Hi. I'm trying to perform what should be a reasonably basic analysis of some spatial presence/absence data but am somewhat overwhelmed by the options available and could do with a helpful pointer. My researches so far indicate that if my data were normal, I would simply use gls() (in nlme) and one of the various corSpatial functions (eg. corSpher() to be analagous to similar analysis in SAS)

autologistic modelling in R
Hi, I have spatially autocorrelated data (with a binary response variable and continuous predictor variables). I believe I need to do an autologistic model, does anyone know a method for doing this in R? Many thanks C Bell

how to avoid a for looping break after an error message
Hi all, I wrote a piece of code that generates simulated variables. after variable generation I use them in several analyzes. However, when I use a for to repeat the procedure 1000 times I get an erro message in one of the "for" steps, precisely at this time: gls.temp<- gls(y2 ~ x2,correlation=corExp(form=~coord2[,1]+coord2[,2])) # coord 2 are spatial coordinates and the error

Spatial Autocorrelation
Hello, I have a matrix with the distances among sites. And I have another matrix with the presence and absence of each species in each site. I would like to test the spatial autocorrelation among sites. I have tried to use the function gearymoran of the ade4 package, but error messages keep popping up. Do you know any function for me to test the spatial autocorrelation of my data? Thanks,

Problem with code for bootstrapping chi square test with count data
Hi, I'd like some advice on bootstrapping in R. I have a species x with 20 individuals and a factor containing 0 and 1's (in this case 5 zeros and 15 ones). I want to compare the frequency of the occurrence of 1 with a probability value. This code seems to work to do this in R. attach(test) p <- c(0.5272, (1-0.5272)) sp1_1 <- length(subset(x, x==1)) sp1_0 <- length(subset(x,

R algorithm/package for creating spatial autocorrelation of uniformly distributed landscape values
Dear all: I would like to create a landscape of environmental values that follow a uniform frequency distribution and also have spatial autocorrelation in the landscape. I was wondering if there is an algorithm and/or package out there that creates autocorrelation of values that are distributed according to a non-normal frequency distribution. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you,

GLMMPQL spatial autocorrelation
Dear all, I am experiencing problems using the glmmPQL function in the MASS package (Venables & Ripley 2002) to model binomial data with spatial autocorrelation. My question - is the presence of birds affected by various hydrological parameters? Presence/absence data were collected from 83 sites and coupled against hydrological data from the same site. The bird survey sampling effort

Question about spatial statistics
I?m tryng to use the SPDEP package in my research in the field of population genetics. My data set has the following format: - x and y : coordinates, - Z: allelic frequency in each loci (in a total of 8 locis) - this variable can assume the values 0 ; 0.5 or 1. The objective is to verify if there is a possible spatial autocorrelation structure of the allelic frequency in a population of
