Is my configuration adequate? (For whole disk backup)
Hi all. I need to backup a server (actually web, dns and mail) placed on Internet, and write data on a computer inside the intranet of our company. I have read good things about rsync from the mailing list and the man pages, and I know that it can represent the solution for what I'm looking for. However, since I'm new to rsync, if you can give me your opinion about my configuration I

DVDFab not working anymore
I used DVDFab-8.0.2.2 with wine and ubuntu 10.04 for quite some time and everything worked pretty well. After doing a fresh install of ubuntu 10.10 DVDFab didn't recognize my BD-ROM drive anymore. In Ubuntu 10.04 I had to wait until the linux autorun had finished and then DVDFab started to check the disc. With Ubuntu 10.10 the linux autorun finishes but DVDFab does nothing. I also upgraded

openssh on interix
Hi openssh developers, I'm trying to port openssh to Interix. See [1] for more on this. For Interix sshd needs to be patched to not use setuid()/setgid(), but an Interix specific function setuser(). See [2] why it is needed. Unfortunately, setuser() needs the clear-text password of the user to be fully functional (If you use password-less setuser(), then the user doesn't have network

[LLVMdev] ./configure[384]: test: Files/Microsoft: unexpected operator/operand
Yes, It looks like the PATH variable in the configure script at line 384 isn't getting quoted properly. The "Files/Microsoft" is probably part of "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\...". The spaces cause it to be interpreted as separate words so it fails. I don't have time to look at this in detail right now. Have a look at the configure script and see if you can figure

Wine/Interix -- The pros and cons.
I was thinking about running Wine on Interix (the POSIX layer of Microsoft's Services for Unix). There are a few apparent unknows: Would Wine load the .dll.so's? Since Interix uses PE for it's native format (running on Windows, duh), Would Wine load the .dll.so's? Would it reject them being in PE format and having the 'POSIX Layer' attribute set, or could we hack on a

xapian 1.2.21 / MSYS-1.0.11.exe
Xapian Developers, [I initially thought to install xapian on SFU (Interix 3.5) on MS XP but could not compile libuuid] [getopt.h, inttypes.h, and stdint.h taken from SUA (for Vista) and installed in SFU (Interix 3.5)] If someone is inclined to write a modified libuuid and label it for use with Interix <version(s)> to satisfy the dependency for an xapian <version(s)> install on

[LLVMdev] Type uint64_t required but not found
Reid, When configuring LLVM I get this error: ----------------- checking for uint64_t... no configure: error: Type uint64_t required but not found ----------------- However, this type exists as u_int64_t in /usr/include/types.h. The easy way for me is to edit types.h, but I think the right thing is to somehow to test for it on Interix platform. Any thoughts? /Henrik --- Got Freedom?

minimal adequate model
I am trying to model a set of data that I am working on using contrasts. Since the data set is too large, I am interested in scripting the entire process to arrive at the minimum adequate model. Has anyone in the group done this before? If you I would appreciate their comments. Cheers ../Murli [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Interix Port
Hi! I recently updated my now long-standing patches for openssh 5.5p1 on interix, and wondered if i ever reported those here, and whether there would be any interest in it anyway. So just to make sure, i'm sending it here, so you may do with it however you like. It would be cool to see the changes go upstream though ;) Regards, markus -------------- next part -------------- A non-text

Is a VM an adequate environment for simulating scenarios and limits of BTRFS?
Greetings all and pardon my intrusion, I''m just a basic home user running a file server for mostly large media files (write once, read many). Some dynamic working files, but a much smaller portion. The OS will not run on BTRFS, nor will it do much in the way of running services other than what''s required for a basic file server. My server hardware is mostly salvaged, 2 GB of
