r Y MATLAB
Estimados Hay muchos script existentes en Matlab que son de interés nuestro. ¿Es posible “’traducir” estos al R? ¿Leerlos y ejecutarlos desde R como se hace con los de SPSS? Pros and Cons of R
Hi, I am doing a very informal presentation for my office about R capabilities to deal with and analyze spatial data, display data and maps, and connections with GIS. I've used in my presentation info from the CRAN, the spatial Task view, and the more striking graphics examples from http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/thumbs.php and NCEAS

r Y MATLAB

Comparison of data analysis packages: R, Matlab, SciPy, Excel, SAS, SPSS, Stata - Brendan O'Connor's Blog
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi All, I found an interesting thread discussing R and other packages here: http://anyall.org/blog/2009/02/comparison-of-data-analysis-packages-r-matlab-scipy-excel-sas-spss-stata/ Plenty of well-reasoned comments. I thought it may be informative for people on this list. Best, - -Jose - -- Jose Quesada, PhD. Max Planck Institute, Center for

Popularity of R, SAS, SPSS, Stata...
Hi All, I've been fiddling around with various ways to estimate the popularity of R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, JMP, Minitab, Statistica, Systat, BMDP, S-PLUS, R-PLUS and Revolution R. It's not an easy task. You can see what I've come up with so far at http://r4stats.com/popularity . I'm sure people will have plenty of ideas on how to improve this, so please let me know what you think.

R vs Matlab: which is more "programmer friendly"?
Hi, The department of economics at our university (Budapest) is planning a course on numerical methods in economics. They are trying to decide which software to use for that, and I would like to advocate R. The other alternative is Matlab. I have found comparisons in terms of computational time for matrix algebra, but I don't think that is relevant: the bottleneck for economists is usually

things that are difficult/impossible to do in SAS or SPSS but simple in R
Hi all, I'm giving a talk in a few days to a group of psychology faculty and grad students re the R statistical language. Most people in my dept. use SAS or SPSS. It occurred to me that it would be nice to have a few concrete examples of things that are fairly straightforward to do in R but that are difficult or impossible to do in SAS or SPSS. However, it has been so long since I have used

Repeated Measures MANOVA in R
Can R do a repeated measures MANOVA and tell what dimensionality the statistical variance occupies? I have been using MATLAB and SPSS to do my statistics. MATLAB can do ANOVAs and MANOVAs. When it performs a MANOVA, it returns a parameter d that estimates the dimensionality in which the means lie. It also returns a vector of p-values, where each p_n tests the null hypothesis that the mean

how to fit y=m*x
Hi There, I have a set of data (xi,yi).I want to fit them with the equation y=mx. note: in the above equation, there is no intercept. I don't know how to use common software such as R , matlab, sas, or spss to do this kind of regression. Does anyone know how to do this? I know it is easy to use least square method to do this by programming. But I want to find if there exists some common

Matlab import
Dear R-Experts, here again a question concerning matlab. With the command "matrixM=[1 2 3;4 5 6]" a matrix under Matlab was constructed. It was than stored with the command "save('matrixM.txt','matrixM')". Now I tried to import the data in R with the help of the command "Z=matrix(scan("Z:/Software/R-Programme/matrixM.txt"))" An error

re ad.spss (foreign) conflict with SPSS 17 files.
SPSS seems to have changed its default datafile format, resulting in issues for read.spss(). In Windows this results in a warning, in Debian the import completely fails: Debian (R version 2.8.0 (2008-10-20) i486-pc-linux-gnu, foreign_0.8-29) > read.spss("/home/jeroen/samples/Tomato.sav") Error in iconv(names(rval), cp, "") : unsupported conversion from 'CP65001'

read.spss (package foreign) and SPSS 15.0 files
Hello, does anyone have experience with reading SPSS Version 15.0 files into R (version 2.4.1, WinXP)? I have long been sucessfully reading SPSS files with read.spss from the wonderful foreign package, but somehow after upgrading from SPSS14 to SPSS15 I seem to have problems. Trying a simple example, where test.sav is a SPSS 15.0 data file consisting of x1=c(1,2,3) and

I am using spss.get to import an SPSS database "Data.sav", created with SPSS 14 : df1 <- spss.get("C:/temp/Data.sav" , lowernames=TRUE, datevars = c("dateinte")) I am getting this warning. I get the same warning with read.spss. Warning message: C:/temp/Data.sav: Unrecognized record type 7, subtype 16 encountered in system file This is a stupid

R and reading matlab compressed files
Is there any way to read these files (standard .mat files, created by matlab version 7 onwards are compressed)? I know that R.matlab doesn't read them (it even says in the file MatlabServer.m "Matlab v7 saves compressed files, which is not recognized by R.matlab's readMat()" (lines 47-8)). I know I should be able to make R call Matlab and transfer data (not that I managed to

Matrix eigenvectors in R and MatLab
