changing the value of a variable from inside a function
All - I am trying to write R code to implement a recursive algorithm. I've solved the problem in a klunky way that works, but uses more memory and computing time than it should. A more elegant solution than my current one would require updating the values of a variable that is located in what I will call the "root" environment - that environment from which the original call

Autogenerated png, bitmap images
I have two questions - 1. I am trying to create R png graphs via cron. I have this part working using Xvfb (X virtual frame buffer). One problem that I have, though, is that all the fonts on my graphs get messed up. Anybody have any nija R commands to make all fonts look great? Anybody have any idea how to fix this? So far, no luck on Solaris or Linux making the Xvfb fonts look good. I was

[Rdev] any way to generate "bitmap" (tif, jpeg, png etc) files in R CMD BATCH
Hi Community, here is the problem, Linux problem (reported to work on Windows). I need to generate graphical output in any of bitmap format under the 'R CMD BATCH'. Whereas the script generating png-s works perfectly in the R session, such things as X11, png and jpeg are not usable in BATCH (they cannot be switched on by --gui-X11 etc) and X11 is prompted to be required for png. Read and show Bitmap Images
Dear all, I am looking for a function that can plot bitmap images and by plotting I mean a function that can read an image's matrix structure with integers and assign colors. Do you please suggest me what else I can do for plotting these images? I would like to thank you for your reply B.R Alex [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

use dirty bitmap to backup raw images
Dear Sir, I use dirty bitmap to backup kvm raw images. I did not shutdown or suspend the vm when backup. I try to export backup as raw images or qcow2 images when doing full backups as the origin disk is in raw format, all backup jobs finish successfully. But only the raw images works, the guest os runs well. The qcow2 backup has data corruption and the guest os is in rescue mode. This

odfWeave - How to Insert eps rather than png
If you create plots and use odfWeave to create an odf text document, the default for figures is png bitmap graphics. The only way I've found to insert eps graphics is to first create the eps graphic using the postscript driver and then use odfInsertPlot. I've tried to use getImageDefs and setImageDefs but I get an empty plot. Could someone show an example? Rick B.

bitmap images in tcltk
Dear R-help list members, I'm writing a package using tcltk. Thanks to Peter Dalgaard's excellent work on the tcltk package, almost everything has gone very smoothly. I'm stymied, however, by the following problem: I want to incorporate a bitmap image, stored as an xbm file, in a widget. To take a simple example, top <- tktoplevel() tkgrid(tklabel(top,

Glimmix and glm
Hello. Some months age an e-mail was posted in which a comparison between Glimmix and glm was discussed. I have not been able to find that e-mail on the R archive. Does anyone recall the date of the above e-mail? Thank you very much. ******************************************* Antonio Paredes USDA- Center for Veterinary Biologics Biometrics Unit 510 South 17th Street, Suite 104 Ames, IA 50010

Reducing the size of pdf graphics files produced with R
Hi, Without trying to print 1000000 points (see <http:// finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/42105.html>), I often print maps for which I do not want to loose too much of coastline detail, and/or plots with 1000-5000 points (yes, some are on top of each other, but using transparency (i.e. rgb colors with alpha information) this actually comes through as useful information.

X11 device
Hi, I am working with R on a Mac Powerbook G4. As described a couple of days ago, I would like to create an animation consisting of - say - 1000 plots (lattice: xyplot, wireframe etc.). Everything works perfectly fine (thanks to all of you for the suggestions and ideas), but before I am able to plot (.png's in a for-loop), I have to start a X11 device. I was wondering if it is

[PATCH nbdkit] common: Move shared bitmap code to a common library.
I have some patches I'm working on to fix the cache filter. However this is a prelude. It should be simply pure refactoring. All tests pass still. Rich.

gregexpr in R 2.3.0 != gregexpr in R 2.4.0
Hi all I have a question regarding differences in the way gregpexr works in R 2.3.0 and R 2.4.0. In R 2.3.0, this is what happens: > gregexpr(" [a-z] [a-z] ", " a b c d e f ", perl=T) [[1]] [1] 1 3 5 7 9 attr(,"match.length") [1] 5 5 5 5 5 ... while in R 2.4.0, this is what happens: > gregexpr(" [a-z] [a-z] ", " a b c d e f ", perl=T)

[PATCH nbdkit v3] common: Move shared bitmap code to a common library.
v2: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-December/msg00039.html v2 -> v3: - Fix all the issues raised in Eric's review. - Precompute some numbers to make the calculations easier. - Calculations now use bitshifts and masks in preference to division and modulo. - Clear existing bits before setting (which fixes a bug in the cache filter). Rich.

[PATCH nbdkit v2] common: Move shared bitmap code to a common library.
This is exactly the same as v1: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-December/msg00004.html except that it now frees the bitmap on unload (which the old code did not - there was always a memory leak). Rich.
