: newbie estimating survival curve w/ survfit for coxph
I am wondering how to estimate the survival curve for a particular case(s) given a coxph model using this example code: #fit a cox proportional hazards model and plot the #predicted survival curve fit <- coxph( Surv(futime,fustat)~resid.ds+strata(rx)+ecog.ps+age,data=ovarian[1:23,]) z <- survfit(fit,newdata=ovarian[24:26,],individual=F) zs <- z$surv zt <-

S4 class questions
Hi, I'd like to create a S4 class contains only one type of data. However, the number of slots varies. For example, I want to create a class "a", each slots in "a" contains numeric value only. > setClass("a", contains = "numeric") If I want to create an object "a" with only one slot containing c(3,4), I will write >

trellis plot question
Greetings, Does anyone know how to get an id number in the little header above each individual plot within a trellis plot? The default seems to be to print the word id and add a line indicating on a linear scale where the current id sits. Thanks in advance for any help you can send, Suzette ================================= Suzette Blanchard, Ph.D. Research Scientist Frontier Science

cubic spline/smoother with nlme
Greetings, I would like to use a cubic spline or smoother to model the fixed effects within nlme. So far the only smoother I have been able to get to run successfully in nlme is smooth(). I tried smooth.spline: fixed=list(lKa~1,lCL~smooth.spline(BSA, df=3)) the error I got was the following. Error in model.frame(formula, rownames, variables, varnames, extras, extranames, : invalid

reading the seed from a simulation
Greetings, I have a simulation of a nonlinear model that is failing. But it does not fail til way into the simulation. I would like to look at the run that is failing and maybe I could if I could capture the seed for the failing run. The help file on set.seed says you can do it but when I tried rs<-.Random.seed print(paste("rs",rs,sep=" ")) I got 626 of them so I

zip.file.extract
Hello everyone, Can anyone give me some hint/suggestion for unzipping a file in R? The help file for "zip.file.extract" function seems to be difficult to understand. For example, the name of my zip file is "refGene.txt.gz", which is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\test1". I would like to unzip this file to the same directory. Here's

Surprise Thread Preemptions
Hi, I would like to know about which threads will be preempted by which on my OpenSolaris machine. Therefore, I ran a multithreaded program "myprogram" with 32 threads on my 24-core Solaris machine. I make sure that each thread of my program has same priority (priority zero), so that we can reduce priority inversions (saving preemptions -- system overhead). However, I ran the following

This works manually. the myprogram just opens a database and writes the line... My desire is to run the smwebsocket, connect to the websocket and output the data (line by line) when we get a line that matches Location take that line

quiver plot help
Hello everybody I'm trying to write a simple version of matlab's "quiver". The idea is that I have fluid with velocity defined on a grid. I have a matrix of x-components of velocity and a matrix of y-components and I want to see the overall flow pattern. (I work with 2D fluid mechanics problems). Now I have a general following up question: Is there a straightforward way to rearrange the following dataset so that all first letters of each column will be combined in one column, all the second letters in a second column, all the third ones in a third column and so on, resulting in 7 columns, i.e. for

Sweave \Sexpr{} advice please
Dear List, First off, my deepest gratitude to the Sweave developers: this tool has improved my quality greatly. A question in my work I use \Sexpr{} statements scalar values and the xtable package for all manner of tables. What I'd like to do is to use a vector inline, rather than a whole separate table. Something like: %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% begin code % Latex junk % Sweave block:

Top level \Sexpr and R CMD check
I would like to create \examples{} in the manual dynamically, and while it is possible to do this with a \Sexpr at the top level, R CMD check issues a warning for it. (See below.) Is it intentional that \Sexpr is not allowed at the top level? The Rd grammar allows this, but R CMD check does not. Is there any other way to generate/modify the \examples{} section dynamically? Thanks, Gabor In

a rounding option for \Sexpr{}?
Hi all, Currently Sweave does not format the (especially numeric) value in \Sexpr{}, and I often have to round() the numbers explicitly, otherwise I will get more than 10 digits, which is not necessary for me in most cases. Is there a way to specify the number of digits to be kept for values in \Sexpr{}? e.g. can we make \Sexpr{} respect getOption('digits')? Thanks! Regards, Yihui --
