beginning my R-learning
Hello, I'm just beginning to learn R. What books/online learning modules with datasets would you suggest? Thank you! Plotting question
Hi, I use?R to draw my graphs. I have 100 points on a simple xy-plot. The points are distinguished by a third variable which is categorical with 10 levels. I have been plotting x against y and using gray scales to distinguish the level of the categorical variable for each point. It looks ok to me but?a journal reviewer says this is not any use. I cannot afford to pay for colour prints. Any

split a data frame
Hi , I have a data frame (Data1) which has a area variable (AREA) with codes (RA,RG,LT etc.). I would like to split the data frame into individual data frames called RA, RG, LT conatining only the observations from those areas. Thanks yours sincerely Andrew McCulloch -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read

How to use BayesTree or RBF for predict
Hi all, sorry for my english, but I don't speak yours language. I'm trying to use bart() and rbf(). The package I'm using now is "BayesTree" and "neural", respectively. I could create the models, but I can't predict my test data. Does anyone have such an experience? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you in advanced!. Andr? -- View this message in

exact confidence intervals for conditional logistic regression
Dear R folks, We completed a matched case-control study that was analyzed using conditional logistic regression. Because of the small sample size we need to calculate exact confidence intervals. The quick solution is to purchase LogExact by Cytel. However, we'd like to do this in R. Anyone have experience with this? Many thanks, Tomas ____________________________________ Tomas Aragon, MD,

SUMMARY : Repair Filesystem prompt , after inode has illegal blocks ; qla2xxx message on reboot
hi All, thanks for the responses. After being dropped into the # Filesystem repair prompt, ( on account of "inode 27344909 has illegal blocks" ) following warm reboot (via "reboot") after finding (SAN ) filesystem in read-only mode yesterday morning (possibly because of HBA fault on SAN) , I ran fsck -r /data (Linux version 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5 , Red Hat 4.1.2-42 , ext3

rstandard.glm() in base/R/lm.influence.R
I contacted John Fox about this first, because parts of the file are attributed to him. He says that he didn't write rstandard.glm(), and suggests asking r-devel. As it stands, rstandard.glm() has summary(model)$dispersion outside the sqrt(), while in rstandard.lm(), the sd is already sqrt()ed. This seems to follow stdres() in VR/MASS/R/stdres.R. Of course for the c("poisson",

Quantile regression with complex survey data
Dear there, I am working on the NHANES survey data, and want to apply quantile regression on these complex survey data. Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you in advance, Yiling Cheng Yiling J. Creating new variable with maximum visit date by group_id
Dear R users, I am encoutering the following problem: I have a dataset with a 'unique_id' and different 'visit_date' (formatted as.Date, "%d/%m/%Y") per unique_id. I would like to create a new variable with the most recent date of visit per unique_id as shown below. unique_id visit_date last_visit_date 1 01/06/2010 01/06/2011 1 01/01/2011 01/06/2011 1

AW: Query: IRR Confidence Intervals
Hi Cristian, I don't know about a R routine for exact CIs, but I found a function called "ageadjust" using a gamma distribution approximation some time ago -take a look at http://medepi.org/epitools/rfunctions/index.html. That Webpage seems a bit outdated now, but the calculations given in the ageadjust functions should still work, I think. Maybe this helps; regards Heinrich.

Tcl/Tk not working on Mac OS X
Greetings. Yesterday I decided to try out Rcmdr, but it refused to load. I traced the problem to the library tcltk, which when I tried to load it told me this: > > library(tcltk) > Loading Tcl/Tk interface ... Error in fun(...) : > Can't find a usable init.tcl in the following directories: > @TCL_IN_FRAMEWORK@ @TCL_IN_FRAMEWORK@ > > > > This probably

Difficutlies with lp port
Hello, I'm using libvirt on debian as host and Windows XP Home as guest. I would like to pass the /dev/parport0 to XP to attach a printer. I use virt-manager. When I add a parallel port as a "dev" type I got this conf file: .... <parallel type='dev'> <source path='/dev/parport0'/> <target port='0'/> </parallel> ....

how to coerce the result of sweep to be an array if result of FUN is a string?
Hi, I would like to use sweep to "sweep out" proportions and confidence intervals for an array, however when I supply a function which returns a string (containing something like "9% (3-18%)") I get back a list instead of an array, here is a simplified example: # example showing that sweep does not return an array with same dimensions as STATS as advertised

Question about food sampling analysis
Greetings to all, and my apologies for a question that is mostly about statistics and secondarily about R. I have just started a new job that (this week, apparently) requires statistical knowledge beyond my training (as an epidemiologist). The problem: - We have 57 food production facilities in three categories - Samples of 4-6 different foods were tested for listeria at each facility - I need

Kernel Density Estimator for 2D Binned Data
Dear All, I am researching financial market microstructure and have approx 4 x 10^7 multivariate 2D data samples which I have counted into a 250 x 390 bin matrix (frequency counted 2D histogram) in order to more efficiently manage the volume of data. I now wish to construct a smooth kernel density estimate (Gaussian kernel function) using this binned data. Does anyone in the R community know

generalized linear mixed model by ML
Dear All, I wonder if there is a way to fit a generalized linear mixed models (for repeated binomial data) via a direct Maximum Likelihood Approach. The "glmm" in the "repeated" package (Lindsey), the "glmmPQL" in the "MASS" package (Ripley) and "glmmGIBBS" (Myle and Calyton) are not using the full maximum likelihood as I understand. The

Lattice graph help
Hi all I hope you might help me with some aspects of producing a graph in lattice. There are three things I have struggling with and that is: 1. to separate the horizontal box rows from each other; 2. to change the colour of the horizontal and vertical strips to white; and 3. to place the axes labels on the left y axes and on the bottom x axes. I would really appreciate some help. I have put the

Plotting panels at arbitrary places on a map, rather than on a lattice
I think it is easiest to describe what I want in terms of the concrete problem I have. I have data from a number of countries in each of which a sample of people was interviewed. In presenting the results in a forthcoming collaborative publication much emphasis will be placed on the multi-centre nature of the study. Although I suspect colleagues may do this with shaded maps I would prefer to
