Table prefix
Hi everybody, is it possible to override standard RoR table nomination/pluralization to include a suffix? I have some tables with usr_ prefix but i would use "real" table name in model naming. For example i have table usr_accesslogs; in normal use i should create a model called UsrAccesslog instead Accesslog. Is it possible to do this?? Thanx Davide

Rails and Offline processing
How are you guys handling threads or server processes that have to, for example, process the data in your application on a periodic basis? Cron jobs can do it and then run on the database. But, are there ways to launch threads within the rails application itself. I have heard of WebBrick ways, but I am working with lighttpd, fastcgi? (textdrive if you are really interested).

Using two select elements (master - slave)
Hi, I am looking for an opinion. I need to have two select html elements in a form, the selection of the first element will determine the elements of the second select. I do not want to use AJAX, so I think I would like to add a onchange event in the first select, but due to my lack of experience in rails I am somewhat without ideas on the way of handling this "post back" event. Thank

What''s the javascript to submit an AJAX Form?
HI Everyone, How do I form the href on an anchor so I can create a link-style submit for an ajax form? In this snippet, the INPUT generated by #submit_tag works OK, but the anchor results in the AJAX replacing the whole page? Can I make the anchor/href submit the AJAX form as well? Thank you! I have this (list.rhtml): <%= form_remote_tag :url =>

Hi all, can you recommend me which web server config to use for developing rails on windows machine. I tried webrick, which is good but it''s annoying because console window is in taskbar for every site running and it have to be started manually. Parsing key-value files
Hi, I am very very new to both Ruby and Ruby on Rails. I have been given a task to create a web application, which is able to edit individual entries in a key-value file. In other works, I would need to create an application which can parse a key-value file. Could someone guide me where I should start in a case like that? I was able to access and edit database table entries using Rails, but I

preventing indexing of an acts_as_ferret''d model?
Hi, this is hopefully an easy one, but I''ve gone through the api and searched past forum entries, and am drawing a blank. I have a model that with acts_as_ferret mixed in to it, which is working fine. But I want users to be able to set a ''private'' attribute on the model, and when it''s set to true, create and update methods would skip indexing. So, how can I

FULLTEXT search in MySQL on rails
I tried adding a FULLTEXT search index to a table of mine in MySQL, only to discover that the InnoDB table format doesn''t seem to support this feature. Switching to the MyISAM table type seemed to work, but I seem to have some recollection that ActiveRecord transactions aren''t fully atomic on MyISAM tables. Is this true or am I just remembering wrong? If so, does anyone have

Anybody using SCGI in production?
Or does anybody prefer fastcgi/fcgi? I''m using webrick for development, but plan on using scgi when I switch to production (because it appears to be an update to fastcgi, and I couldn''t get fastcgi working anyhow). thanks csn __________________________________ Yahoo! [OT] Best Blog + Wiki opinions?
Hello all, I''m looking for suggestions for integrated Blog + Wiki (Bliki) apps. I''d prefer Rails, I want to hear opinions on all options! I''ve browsed through W:Bliki <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bliki>. Nothing in that list is immediately compelling. This is for my wife, who is not a technologist, and has a need to create a information-centric website.

UserEngine: stack level too deep
Hi, I''m trying to get the UserEngine running. I have installed the LoginEngine, added the essential lines to environment.rb / application.rb and application_helper.rb. Worked fine. Then I did the same with the UserEngine and when trying to set up the db: rake engine_migrate ENGINE=user I get: Migrating engine ''user_engine'' rake aborted! stack level too deep But...
