Using the Rprofile file to automatically plot data on Sta rtup of R version 2.0.1.
Dear John, I belive your problem has to do with the sequence of startup. I think that .Rprofile is called before the required libraries are attached. You might like to try putting your code into a .First() function and run it that way. Lattice graphics strip labels for shingles
Dear all, back in 2002 Martin Henry H. Stevens wrote (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2002-May/019851.html) > How do I control the text in strips? Specifically, I want to put in the > ranges generated in shingle(x) where x is continuous. with an answer from Deepyan Sarkar (see strip.new towards the end of this message). I assume that the answer worked back then, but I've tried

package check - empty line at end of .R file
Dear R-devel members, I'm in the process of building a package (akmisc) for my own use (Win XP, R 2.0.1 Patched - see details at end). As I was adding functions (and hence more source .R files) to my package it got to the point were "R CMD check" failed with the following error (output has been cut). * checking S3 generic/method consistency ... piecewise linear approximation
Dear list, I have a series of data points which I want to approximate with exactly two linear functions. I would like to choose the intervals so that the total deviation from my fitted lines is minimal. How do I best do this? Thanks! Running out of memory when using lapply
Hi all! I'm afraid I programmed something totally non-sensical and inefficient, but I can't figure out how to do it better. I have a list of ~ 40 000 characters. I want to take each element at a time, map it to a large data frame with hit=which(data.frame$column==elementFromList), then compute some statistic on data.frame[hit,] and return a result that consists of either 1) a list

drawing ellipses in R
Hello, I have been following the thread dated Monday, October 9, 2006 when Kamila Naxerova asked a question about plotting elliptical shapes. Can you explain the equations for X and Y. I believe they used the parametric form of x and y (x=r cos(theta), y=r sin(theta). I don't know what r is here ? Can you explain 1)the origin of these equations and 2) what is r? Sincerely, Mary A. Different results under Windows and Linux
Hi everyone, disturbingly, a PCA yields different results when I run the analysis under Windows and Linux. I open the same workspace (which is on an independent partition) and perform the exact same function (by using the history file). Interestingly, PC1 is the same, but PC2 comes out totally different. Thanks! Kamila Windows: platform i386-pc-mingw32 arch i386 os

Installing the Matrix package
Hi all, is the Matrix package no longer available for download via install.packages? When I try to install it (from any mirror), I get the following error message: install.packages("Matrix",lib="/home/kn52/R-2.5.0/library") Warning message: package 'Matrix' is not available in install.packages("Matrix",lib="/home/kn52/R-2.5.0/library") Other

Rprofile file to automatically plot data, tried using the .First command.
No. You put the _whole_ thing into .First(), not just the plot statement. One possibility is to have the code in a script file (say myscript.R) and define .First as follows: .First <- function() source("myscript.R") Haven't try it myself, though. Reset trellis plot backgroud color
Hello, I run R on Windows 2000. When I load lattice library and plot some lme class objects, the graphic window displays a dark-green color. Graphics look ok on the screen, but lines and points become invisible whem I send the plot to a printer because of the background color. Are there ways to reset the background color? Both par(bg=) and windows() do not work. Any ideas? Richard

repeating rows or columns within a matrix
Hello Spse I have a matrix, say 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and I would like to expand it by repeating rows within the matrix, to get, if the repeating factor is 2, say: 123 123 456 456 789 789 (or columnwise as well) . There must be a smart way of doing that? Many thanks Juhana Vartiainen juhana.vartiainen at labour.fi -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Hi All, I am using rsync to backup our office server to our Internet server (RHE). As an association for doctors we are looking at providing a backup service for their practices using rsync. As it would be patient data it would need to be encrypted. I have found a few options, namely esync wurt rsyncrypto Does anyone have experience with the above and perhaps like to recommend one?
