in place edit, save on blur
I thought I''d seen some discussion on this, but can''t find it. I have a text area that I''d like to save on blur unless the user clicks cancel. Anyone got a nice example of this? It''s non-obvious to me how I force the submit via javascript. Thanks, pt. -- Parker Thompson http://www.parkert.com/ 510.541.0125

webrick and in_place_editor_field
I''m having a strange problem with webrick spinning forever. I have a view ''list'' that renders a collection: <%= render :partial => ''item'', :collection => @items %> The item partial looks like so: <div id="item_<%= item.id %>"> ... <div id="price"> <%= in_place_editor_field :item, :price

inserting column headings between grouped rows
Hello all, I have what is conceptually a pretty simple poblem, but can''t think of an obvious solution. I have a group of objects (@items), that I wish to render as rows. Items have dates, and I wish to group them by that date, inserting a header row each time the date changes e.g.: header row row 11/11/2004 row 11/11/2004 header row row 11/23/2004 I''m currently

template choice error (layout.rb)
Hey, I installed the rjs plugin yesterday and started using it for one set of views. Today I notice that in an entirely separate controller/template I''m seeing this error: TypeError (can''t dup NilClass): /vendor/plugins/javascript_generator_templates/lib/add_rjs_to_action_controller.rb:41:in `dup''

like clause for find
I''ve done a bit of searching, but got too much noise and no perceivable signal. So, I apologize if I''m just missing this in the docs, seems like it should be easy. I''d like to provide some basic search functionality in my app by allowing the user to enter in some text and generating a query like so: SELECT * FROM things WHERE field LIKE ''%input''%;

Textile/RedCloth and h() incompatible?
If a user enters the Textile-based code for an image, say: !>graphic.png! the textile() method will successfully render a right-float image. Now, if I want to escape the user''s text using h(), the ''>'' is turned into an &amp;. Obviously, the image then fails to render in a browser. Is there a work around for this? I guess what I''m really asking

field update not happneing
Hi, I''m having some scriptaculous weirdness, hoping this is an easy fix. I have a js function defined in my header: function flash(msg){ $(''flash_msg'').value = msg; alert(msg); // for debugging ... } This is being called like so: <%= form_remote_tag( :update => ''admins'', :url => { :action =>

Can we cache user home pages?
Hi Railers, I am trying to create a simple application like a guest book which has users and uses sessions to keep track of which users are logged on. The user''s page is constructed after doing some SQL queries and the user clicks on another link and hits the back button I dont want to regenerate the whole page (which is what happens now) .So I want to use some kind of caching mechanism.

acts_as_taggable query
Hi , I couldnt find any mailing list for this nice plugin so I hope this is not off topic.I just have a basic question here. I already had created a table and a model for the tags and items and the join table and now want to use this plugin but I just cant seem to figure out how to make it use my table instead of the default. class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base # already exists and has the

testing actionmailer from a controller
Hello, Our application sends e-mail using a number of templates based on the situation. We would like to test that the appropriate template is getting rendered based on the controller state. assert_template would work to test which template is being rendered to the browser. But this doesn''t tell us which template was used to send the e-mail. Anyone have a solution to this problem?

acts_as_taggable - adding users and normalizing tags
Hey all, I''m wondering how people are using acts_as_taggable. Two things I''d like to do that aren''t supported out of the box are tag normalization and user attribution. I can''t imagine I''m the first to think about doing this. >From a schema perspective these things both seem simple, just put the normalized tag in the tags table, and have a join

HABTM join table quirk
I''ve been bringing up a good basica framework for applications at work. To give decent security I''ve been implementing the Rails Recipie for Authorization of function calls modeled on the book''s implementation. (Changes for our environment were added..but are minor.) Since I initially let Rails create the join table between two data tables with a HABTM relationship....I

Purpose of after_initialize in ActiveRecord?
All, I have a quick question - is the purpose of implementing after_initialize to allow custom attribute initialization for AR descendants? I have been overriding initialize whenever I require custom setup of my model classes, like so: def initialize(attributes = nil) super self.Status = ''G'' end So I have a couple of questions: 1) Could I achieve the same

New Rails Site: Wordie
My latest stupid web trick, built, with love, in Rails: http://wordie.org Make lists of words. See who else likes the same words. Basically, it''s a dating site. Built on thanksgiving while half-watching football and launched yesterday. In other words, half-baked, but I thought some of you might find it mildly amusing. radio station infrastructure.
Hello, I'm setting up icecast/ices to be used as part of a radio station. For our purposes, we're going to want to be able to do things like schedule blocks of media to be played at regular times (shows), as well as to schedule things like one-time broadcasts. It looks like this can be done by building a scheduler app, and writing a script that provides the appropriate items to ices at

Yaml for jqgrid
Anyone have a more extensive yaml file for jqgrid than the one that''s shown with the example Jqgrid Demos page? Also, I''ve been successful in just using the straight jQuery javascript code, rather than invoking the yaml file to produce it), but sometimes get an "unitialized class variable @@grid_name" error. I was doing this because all the code I see on the web to

Cisco 79xx series IP phones
Shawn, That's a complete load of manure. I have an office full of 7960's, they work great with asterisk with the SIP images loaded. I'm about to pick up a lot of 7912's (simple one line phones, same as the 7905 but it has a built in switch). These phones have also been confirmed to work with Asterisk. I would recommend not going directly to cisco, and just find a reseller who

[PATCH] cpu.c: initialize a variable
Some debugging tools don't like if a code uses unitialized variables. The code in cpu.c uses the value of fxsr.buff[50], so it makes sense to explicitely initialize it (because fxsave can fail to do it). -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
