InstantRails 1.0 problems...
Hi, I have installed InstantRails 1.0 Final on Win XP (Home SP2) and Win 2K 2000. I was able to get the two apps (cookbook, typo) work fine with Webrick but not with SCGI server. I tried changing the SCGI settings through the InstallRails.exe console so that the Runtime Mode: would be "development" instead of "production" and SCGI port: to 5000 instead of 9998.

Ruby and Flash?
Hi there, I have an idea for a game I want to build, but it requires Flash as the presentation layer (I''d want to do the back end in Ruby running on Rails.) I have not been able to find any info on the integration of the two, and someone suggested asking here. Any info would be appreciated. Any links to examples would be great too. Thanks - please make sure you respond to me directly

uneven list to matrix
Hello, I am sure I am not the only person with this problem. I have a list with n elements, each consisting of a single column matrix with different row lengths. Each row has a name ranging from A to E. Here is an example: alph[[1]] A 1 B 2 C 3 D 4 alph[[2]] A 1 C 3 D 4 alph[[3]] A 1 D 4 E 5 I would like to create a matrix from the elements in the list with n columns such that the row names

Exactness of ppois
Hello, by checking the precision of a convolution algorithm, we found the following "inexactness": We work with R Version 1.8.1 (2003-11-21) on Windows systems (NT, 2000, XP). Try the code: ## Kolmogorov distance between two methods to ## determine P(Poisson(lambda)<=x) Kolm.dist <- function(lam, eps){ x <- seq(0,qpois(1-eps, lambda=lam), by=1) max(abs(ppois(x,

C API
Hi. I am one of the developers of Swish-e (http://swish-e.org/), an indexing/search tool similar to Xapian. I am currently researching future development directions for the Swish-e project. Three of our most often-requested features are UTF-8 support, incremental indexing, and large (multimillion) doc sets, all of which seem to be ably handled in the Xapian library. So one possible

armageddon vs. polling for shared resources, ajax, stale browsers
Hi, I am using AJAX so much that I never refresh the entire webpage for the admin side of a webapp. If two people are viewing the same data and one person makes a change then I want the change to show up in the other person''s page. I can have the client poll the server every two seconds to look for changes. I''m not really interested in Comet for keeping a connection open

Robust Search Solution (with CentOS 4.3)
I've got about 10,000 docs I'd like to devise a search/index for. I found a perl script called Perlfect that can do that on an old P3 but at the astronomical time of 7 hours. Another script(cgi/perl) at hotscripts can do the same but allows the "rm -rf /" exploit. DoH!? Is there anything perl/flatfile that can search/index faster? This is a nice job for an aging P3 in the

PXELinux cannot load the config file
I have DHCP and TFTP on a Solaris machine, pxelinux.0 loads, but it can't load the configuration file. The tftp server on Solaris tries to send the file, but data transfers do not receive ACKs. Previous posts to this list have indicated that the suspect was the PXE BIOS (ref "PXELinux can't load the config file?" dated March 20, 2003). Does that still appear to be the case

Read files in a folder when new data files come
Hello, I am working on a project. The new data files is coming as the data collectors get data, then the data collectors put these new data files in a folder. I need to read these new data files when they are in folder. so far, I did this job manually, that is to say, each time I go to that folder and find new data files, then use my R program to read these new data files. I am wondering if

Xapian document matching
Hi, i'm wondering is there a possibility to do like ABCSok do (http://nyheter.abcsok.no/), to make "Main article" and "Same articles" collapsed to it. Like on http://news.google.com/?hl=en the same thing. "Parent" and "same article on other sites" (they do differ from each other a little bit). Maybe somebody know how to do that thing or where to read

Facets with Multiple Values
I'm trying to determine the best way to index facets with multiple values. For example, let's say we have several books and we want an Author facet where one can filter the books by the author. The problem is each book can have multiple authors. Is there a way to index multiple author names into a single value slot for each book? I see there is a Xapian::StringListSerialiser class that

My problem so is that in windows the ceph storage size statistics are wrong. Instead of seeing a 44TB hard drive I see a 176GB hard drive. Under linux that issue doesn't show. The size are properly reported. I investigated around and it seems that the problem

splom, plotmath: how to add three lines of information with alignment?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a scatter plot matrix with splom(). The lower panel should contain some additional information about the samples shown in the upper panel plot, see the splom() call below. Now two questions came up: (1) The lower panels show "tau" and "alpha" on top of each other. How can I plot *three* expressions on top of each other? I tried several
