ActionView::Helpers::FormHelper.text_field
Hi,
Is it possible to use the ActionView::Helpers::FormHelper.text_field with an
instance variable instead of a model. e.g.
In the controller:
def meth
@value = ''hi there''
end
In view:
<%= text_field ''value'', nil %>
It doesn''t work with what is above (doesn''t like the nil) and produces very
strange results replacing nil with

Setting default value in text_field/password_field
I am trying to set a default value in a text_field form. I know how
to do this in html, but is there a way to do
this with form_for
Here is my code
<% form_for :user do |f| -%>
<p><label for="firstname"%>First Name</label><br/>
<%= f.text_field :firstname%></p>
...
<p><label for ="email"%>Email</label><br/>

formhelper password_field only takes two arguments
When I look at the docs, password_field seems to take 3 arguments.
So when I ''play around" with things and I attempt to pass three
arguments to password_field ... I get an error saying that it only takes
two parameters ("3 for 2")
I am totally lost.

_form rendering question for adding multiple child objects
Hi
I have been following a thread here..
http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/new?forum_id=3 but it did raise some new
curiosities that I hope someone can help address here :)
In particular it is with Duane''s super secret hack that works for
multiple child objects

text_area_tag not escaping content by default
I stumbled on the fact that text_area_tag does not HTML escape its
content by default. For example:
text_area_tag "body", "</textarea><script>alert(''xss'');<script>"
If you try that, you''ll see that the content is inserted literally.
Considering the fact that the tag helpers all encode their attribute
values by default, does this

How do you deal with non-model property form values
I have a User ActiveRecord model that has email and password properties. I
want to build a login for that has a "remember me" option. My view looks
like this:
<% @page_title = "Login" -%>
<%= error_messages_for ''user'' %>
<%= form_tag %>
<table>

ActionView::Helpers::FormHelper instance methods should take an object reference rather than an object_name.
Hi
ActionView::Helpers::FormHelper methods (e.g. #text_field,
#check_box...) take object_name as an argument. From this argument
they infer a name that is supposed to contains the reference to the
relevant object.
I can''t see why the FormHelper methods were designed that way.
Compared to simply passing them a reference, the current way seems too
complicated and an invitation to problems

I want every form in the site to add a hidden_field, basically I want them
to always submit the I18n.locale, I''ve tried to alias form_tag_html method
of ActionView::Helpers::FormTagHelper like this:

Hello,
I don''t understand how formhelper works (In a Framework point of view) ...
For example if I use the chek_box formhelper

BUT, how it is possible since the check_box has only a string parameters
not instance object ?

along thanks to you.
I have a question about the FormTagHelper "start_form_tag": I''ve been
trying to figure out how to get Rails to output a "name" attribute for
my form so I can hook in a Javascript to focus on a field inside of it
on load, but it doesn''t look like I can do

White Screen of Death
Hello, I''ve heard these words to describe a RoR application returning an
empty page.
This happen from time to time even here, in the forum.
That is the cause of this misbehaviour ? Is it related with something
external to RoR itself ?
What is the solution to avoid the WSOD ?

Parameters for FormOptionsHelper select vs. FormTagHelper select_tag
I must be missing something when it comes to the parameter differences
between form FormOptionsHelper select and FormTagHelper select_tag.
Code that follows, works perfectly -
<%= f.select :unit, units_to_select(@product), :size=>"20"%>
The following code, does not. The helper function never even seems to
be called.
<%= select_tag "unit",

White Cube of Death - fglrx_7_1_0_SUSE103-8.452.1-1
Listmates (only posting to one list)
Compiz has been running great with the 8.433 driver except for the
libGL SONAME lockup on exit.
see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=344135
I just built and installed the 8.452 driver. Compiz would not start
with the normal fusion-icon approach that I have been using with the
