A smal fitting problem...
Dear R-helpers, I'm for sure not familiar with R, but it seem like a nice sofware tool, so I've decided to try using it. Here is my problem I just can't figure out: I'd like to do least square fit of a straight horizontal (a = 0) line y = ax + b through some data points x = (3,4,5,6,7,8) y = (0.62, 0.99, 0.83, 0.69, 0.76, 0.82) How would i find b????? Plotting the mean of data
Hi all! I've got a datstructure like this: subject week value 1 1 4 2 1 8 3 1 3 4 1 5 1 2 5 2 2 6 3 2 2 4 2 6 1 3 3 2 3 7 3 3 3 4 3 7 I'd like to plot the mean of 'value' against week. Is there a direct way of doing this or do I have to make a new structure with the calculated values and then plot it? All the best! -- ########################################### Kare

disaggregate frequency table into flat file
i appologise for the trivialness of this post - but i've been searching the forum wothout luck - probably simply because it's late and my brain is starting to go.. i have a frequency table as a matrix: orig<-matrix(c(40,5,30,25), c(2,2)) orig [,1] [,2] [1,] 40 30 [2,] 5 25 i basically need a random sample say 10 from 100: [,1] [,2] [1,] 5 2 [2,] 0 3 i

Overall p-value from a factor in a coxph fit
Hi all. If I run the simple regression when x is a categorical variable ( x <- factor(x) ): > MyFit <-coxph( Surv(start, stop, event) ~ x ) How can I get the overall p-value on x other than for each dummy variable? > anova(MyFit) does NOT provide that information as previously suggested on the list. difficulties with setMethod("[" and ...
Apologies if I am not understanding something about how things are being handled when using S4 methods, but I have been unable to find an answer to my problem for some time now. Briefly, I am associating the generic '[' with a class which I wrote (here: myExample). The underlying back-end allows me to read contiguous slabs, e.g., 1:10, but not c(1, 10). I want to shield the user from this

Looping Problem With Call Forwards - Do you have comments on my solution?
I use IP Kall to forward my missed cell phone calls to. This way, if my phone is off, or out of a service area, calls will go to my * box. Concurrently, all incoming calls to my * box cause it to dial my local extensions at home, my extension at work, and my cell phone via NuFone. Problem: A loop can be created if my cell phone is not on. Say a call comes into my * box, it uses NuFone to call my

Space between axis label and tick labels
I'm writing an publication in two column format and need to shrink some plots. After increasing the axis labels it does not look nice at all. The y-axis label and tick labels almost touch each other and the x-axis tick labels expand into the plot instead of away from it. Is there a better way than "cex" to control the: 1) font size of axis and tick labels 2) font thickness 3)

Sale plano sí. Ya se que sin tener los datos y el código es un poco difícil, pero es que mis datos ocupan mucho, es imposible. Seguiré mirando por internet. Muchas gracias Rubén. OpenSUSE 11.4 (2.6.39-30.1), Xen 4.0.2 - Device 0 (vif) Could not be connected
All, This is a fresh, un-f#$ked-with OpenSUSE install after adding the Tumbleweed repository and doing a dup. I installed the Hypervisor with Tools for which it prompted me for Xen or QEMU and I chose Xen. No bridge was made. When I go to create a fully virtualised machine, it nao has the error: Error: Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Could not find the bridge, and none was specified.

Trying to pass arrays as arguments to a function
I'd like to avoid looping through an array in order to change values in the array as it takes too long. I red from an earlier post it can be done by "do.call" but never got it to work. The Idea is to change the value of "y" according to values in "x". Wherever "x" holds the value 3, the corresponding value in "y" should be set to 1. So I

winecfg screen size
I have been trying to get wine up and running for some time. I work with the Debian Linux system with a KDE Desktop. Debian is supplying version 1.0.1 . I just installed the .deb file from the Wine website which is version 1.1.24. That is the highest version available for the Debian system. All of the versions that I have tried have the same thing wrong with the graphic interface. I will use

weighted cumulative distribution with ggplot2
Dear all, I am trying to draw a weighted cumulative distribution (as defined here http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/spatstat/html/ewcdf.html) with ggplot2 however the syntax temp<-qplot(X,weight=weight,data=data,stat = "ecdf", geom = "step",colour=factor(year)) seems not to produce exactly the right figure (the values seems higher at some points)... I am wrong in the

smbusers and wildcards
It is my understanding that if you have a wildcard in smbusers, it should only apply this if the particular users is not in your /etc/password file. Is this true? It appears like samba is rolling down the smbusers file and everything gets mapped to my wildcard user. Eg. smbusers: root = administrator admin nobody = guest pcguest smbguest myunixlogin = mysmblogin www-users = * If I map a

Re : A smal fitting problem...
May be you are also not familiar with statistic. the solution of min \sum_{i=1}^{n} (y_{i}-b)^{2} is the mean. So the solution is b<-mean(y) Justin BEM Elève Ingénieur Statisticien Economiste BP 294 Yaoundé. factorial analysis influenced by data skewness
Hello I run a factorial analysis on 20 variables describing the behaviour of insects on 9 different resistant plants. I then biologically interpreted each of the 5 factors obtained, with respect to the variables with the highest loading value for each factor. And I run a GLM on each factor with plant as independent variable. Eventually, I inferred the resistance mechanism by comparing (through

IP Kall One-Way Audio
I've scoured the web for hints, and find a lot of chatter about one-way audio with IP Kall, but no definitive explanation. I have the default range (5000-31000) of UDP RTP ports forwarded right to my asterisk box, and have no other difficulties with one-way audio on any other peers. Does anyone know of a special setting or issue with IP Kall? --Brent -------------- next part

Addon packages
I'm trying to add 'gplots' from install.packages("gplots", lib = "/usr/lib/R/library", dependencies = TRUE) on a linux host, but R does not seem to figure out there's a new package installed (yes, I've restarted the R-session). I've tried the default, and different library folders, without success. Installation does not report any warnings or bad exit
