create 2 fk referencing the same table
Hi everyone! I have a problem with defining 2 fk referencing the same table. I have a Program table and a Team table. The Program should have an away team and a home team fk. From my understanding, "the fk column should be named after the class of the target table, converted to lowercase, with _id appended". But, in my case, I have 2 fk referencing the same table. How can I do this?

How to manage the form of a model that has two foreign keys
Hi, Basically I have two models: User and Godfather. The godfather table has three columns: - user_id (FK --> User) - user_godfather_id (FK --> User) - description (text) Inside each model class, I am adding the following associations: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :godfathers # for user_id has_many :godfathers, :foreign_key =>

Does :class_name for belongs_to have to be a string and why?
Seemingly, when I use a symbol, I get an ActiveRecord error stating ''Can''t convert symbol into String.'' Why can''t I use a symbol here? Possibly this is a deeper misunderstanding of symbols in general on my part. #ActiveRecord error class Book < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :author, :class_name => :Person, :foreign_key => :author_id end #works

ActiveRecord: FK constraints problem
Hi all. I have has_and_belongs_to_many association between models: Section and Content. class Section < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree has_and_belongs_to_many :contents belongs_to :default_content, :class_name => ''Content'', :foreign_key => ''default_content_id'', :dependent => :nullify end class Content < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to

Include with two references of one model of the same table
Hey guys, I just came across this oddity, not sure what to make of it yet, but I think it might be incorrect behavior. When doing a @inst.find(:all, :include => ["hometeam", "awayteam"] ...) hometeam and awayteam are two references from a belongs_to that is of the same model and of the same table. I will get a pgerror stating that "matches", which is

acts_as_tree and traversing parent/child relationships
I am working on an Rails application that uses a pretty complex category structure through out the site. I have defined a table to house all the info and a FK to reference parents within the table CREATE TABLE categories ( id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, name varchar(50) NOT NULL, parent_id int(11) default NULL, constraint fk_category_id foreign key (category_id) references

Rails is losing key information
I am using ruby 1.8.4 with rails 1.0 under fedora core 3 on a WIntel platform. Rails appears to be losing key information under some circumstances. Specifically, in the Questions class that follows, the presentation_id property is apparently being lost. The STDOUT dump from the create method indicates that the presentation_id should be 42, but the dump from the database shows that it is 43,

acts_as_tree, acts_as_list and is invincible (help!)
So I have the following model class Topic < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :topic has_many :topics, :order => :position acts_as_tree :order => :position acts_as_list :scope => :topic_id end that I use for a site''s navigation. Everything (list, create, edit, even the drag&drop sort) works fine, except the destroy function, which the vanilla version def destroy

has_one :through NoMethodError: undefined method `klass' for nil:NilClass when doing class_name on reflection
Not sure if this is expected or not. Only happened with a has_one :through I had setup. (Workaround is just to remove it and go through the association manually vs has_one ..., through: .) Not a big deal if no one has time to look at it, as it''s not a big enough deal to look into a fix on our side. In Rails (3.2.9) console if I do: MyModel.reflections.each {|name, reflection|

has_many_polymorphs and acts_as_list ?
First, BRAVO for this wonderful plugin: has_many_polymorphs ! Now my problem: 4 models : Collection, Page, Fragment, Belonging (which is the join table): 1 class Collection < ActiveRecord::Base 2 has_many_polymorphs :elements, 3 :through => :belongings, 4 :from => [:pages, :fragments, :collections], 5 :as => :collector, 6 :parent_order =>

Rails generates query with reserved word for field name
For some reason, rails is generating this SQL: SELECT FIRST 1 * FROM questions WHERE (parent_id IS NULL) ORDER BY position DESC 1. There is no column named position referenced in my code. 2. POSITION is a reserved word in SQL92. It is the name of a string function that returns the offset of one string within another. I believe that this is a bug in Rails. Either position should be

possible to create polymorphic relationship with STI models?
I would like to associate a ‘product’ model with 3 models inherited from ‘image’: part, action and accessory. I have it working with Has_many :through relating products to images through attachments, I then have to determine the ‘type’ of the STI extension. This means i have to go product.images. While this is ok, i can see it getting tricky when i want to go products.images <<

Okay, what gives? find_by_id is failing.
This has the look of a "just don''t quite get it yet" problem. I am using the ActiveRecord.find_by_id method to identify the parent object (Quiz) to tie to the child object (Question) at create time. Here is the stdout log: 127.0.0.1 - - [31/Mar/2006:22:43:22 CST] "GET /question/new? parent_quiz=ff2d7022-be0a-11da-9f01-00400506faf5 HTTP/1.1" 200 806

Day.find_all_with_appointments - INNER JOIN
Hi list, Is there a better/simpler way to code an inner join, than the 4 lines below: class Day < Foo def self.find_all_with_appointments (*args) find :all, { :select => ''distinct foos.*'', :joins => ''INNER JOIN appointments ON days.appointment_id = foos.id'' }.merge

Through method problems with custom foreign_keys
A person has a many company_branches and A company_branch has many people. This join is represented using a "contacts" table. I am using a legacy schema so i am forced into using non-standard rails primary keys. I am using the new through relationship in rails 1.1. p=Person.find(1) b=p.company_branches # gives this error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: OCIError: ORA-00904:

acts_as ... hourly_list?
Hi, My question is a bit of wonder and a bit of enlightment. I have two models, Channel and ChannelItem, the second is a list of Events, ordered by position (because I''m using acts_as_list). Later I use a method in Channel to recalculate the hour when that show come online, based on the duration of it and doing math based on the previous one duration and start time, starting from
