button_to with image?
I''m trying to use button_to and have it use an image in place of the
submit button. I had figured it would work the same as link_to like so:
button_to(image_tag("editicon", :size => "16x16", :border => 0), :action
=> ''edit'', :id => person.id)
but this instead displays the image code as the button name. Surely
there is a simple way to

Destructive behavior with link_to, button_to, :post=>true
Hello-
I would like to know what the suggested practice is for having multiple
submit buttons on a relatively complicated input page.
Let''s use the example of a Contact. There is lots of info there,
including name, address, phone number. There is also a list of "contact
associations" which can be modified on the same page.
Ideally, the user could have one

How can i add a confirmation dialog to a submit_tag?
When i use button_to or link_to, i can easily request a confirmation

{ :controller => "story", :action => "delete", :id => @story.id },

Scaffolding working...kinda
Hello all. I''ve been working through some online tutorials, learning ROR
and have a question on scaffolding. Through the command promt i''ve ran
the command:
$ script/generate scaffold Albums
This created the controllers, helpers, models, and views.
I have a database table titled "albums" and have two records saved
within
The problem is that the scaffold command did

scaffold misuse?
Running ruby script/generate scaffold Product Admin
is a wonderful way to set up well, exactly what it says, a scaffold.
My problem is that I have several other tables that are linked,
through foreign keys, to the Product table. Say an "authors" table.
Now when I go enter a new product, a book, I want the application to
provide a drop down list of authors generated from the records in

RESTful PUT and button_to
I''m working on a RESTful app, and I''ve hit a snag. Here''s a
simplified example of the problem. (Excuse me if this example code
isn''t strictly correct; I''m typing from memory.)
Suppose I have a table which models a simple counter. It has a single
column, "count":
class CreateCounters < ActiveRecord::Migration

ruby script/generate scaffold Admin::Category
produces
class Admin::CategoriesController < ApplicationController
Do I really want "CategoriesController" instead of "CategoryController"?
Thanks,

how to make confirm boxes conditional?
Hi,
I''d like to make the :confirm option in my link_to/button_to erb
elements conditional. So, if the page is in some state, no
confirmation is requested, but not otherwise, etc.
So far, my only (ugly) approach is to replace the linker html itself
depending on changes in state, but I believe there must be an easier
way to ''toggle'' the confirmation option on/off.

Is there such a thing as button_to_remote?
I''ve changed my destructive link_to statements in favor of button_to.
But what if I want to make an .rjs call with that button?
Seems like we need something equivalent to link_to_remote, so that the
button can make an ajax request instead submitting the form.
Or am I missing the point entirely?

Stylesheets not being recognized
I am a newbie, but have worked through 4 or 5 tutorials. I am using
InstantRails. The problem is that I cannot determine how the style is
being included. I have modified the stylesheet from
/public/stylesheets/, even removed it. All to no avail. The inline
<style>...</style> code is still being included from somwhere. Where?
What am I missing?
thanks,
steve

Scaffolding - disabling Create, Edit, Destroy for some user logins?
People,
I am using:
before_filter :login_required
in my Controllers and this works fine. For some tables I am happy to
use the output of eg:
ruby script/generate scaffold Author
but is there some way that I can disable Create, Edit, Destroy for some
user logins in the corresponding view?
Thanks,
Phil.

[PATCH] helper to create fb css stylized table
I attached a rails helper implementation of the fb_table described here:
http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Facebook_Styles
I included testing and comments. I hope you find it useful.
Curiously, it''s really a small extension of FBML.

Destroy action doesn''t work?
Hi all,
Here is my Customer controller''s destroy method:
** def destroy
Customer.find(params[:id]).destroy
redirect_to :action => ''list''
end
It''s stock, untouched scaffold code. When I submit the URL:
http://localhost:3000/customers/destroy/11
The entry in the MySQL database with id 11 is not destroyed. The destroy
method won''t
