Read.xport function in package foreign
Hi All, Sorry that I didn't provide enough information. I've been trying to import SAS xport files that contain multiple files using package foreign's read.xport. I first attempted this back in 2005 and had problems. Some of files that were present in the SAS xport file weren't being created in R. I submitted my problem to the community:

R programming question
Dear All., I've created R-code for which a user will be asked to choose between 2 analyses. I've written one function for each type of analysis. Within each function, the users is prompted to enter information. An example is: cat("Enter value for lower Linf :\n") L1<-scan(n=1) cat("Enter value for upper Linf :\n") L2<-scan(n=1)

Help with downloading clim.pact
I am wondering if anyone might know why the package clim.pact won't install properly. I have tried many URL sites and the same thing happens. I get the error message below. I also tried downloading the ZIP from the CRAN site and extracting the file myself, but an error message (something like, "not an archive file") appears. I operate through Windows. Thanks. SAS transport files and the foreign package
Even though the FDA has no policies at all that limit our choices of statistical software, there is one defacto standard in place: reliance of the SAS transport file format for data submission (even though this format is deficient for this purpose, e.g., it does not even document value labels or units of measurement in a self-contained way). Because of the widespread use of SAS transport files in

Hi, SAS transport files created with the xport engine in SAS can be read using read.xport. However, the xport engine only works with SAS version 6, and consequently long variable names are not allowed... Can anyone tell me how to get SAS data (ver 8) into R (easily)? foreign: write.xport
I see in the archives significant discussion about SAS, CDISC formats etc. for FDA, but no direct suggestion of adding a write.xport method to the foreign package. Are there significant barriers to doing so? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

I have encountered a problem reading SAS transport files on both a Mac (OS X) and Linux (RedHat 9), both using R2.0.1. After loading "foreign", the command: read.xport("V1622101_050304.xpt") yields: Error in lookup.xport(file) : File not in SAS transfer format In Linux, I can "cat" the file.
