help: how to use tkevent.generate(...)
Hello,
I use package "tcltk" to do some GUI programming, and want to find a
function which can do the operation "click a button", just like using
a mouse to click. If tkevent.generate can do that? I tried it as
below, but failed. Please give me a hint!
tt <- tktoplevel()
tkwm.title(tt,"Simple Dialog")
onOK <- function(){print("OK")}

test for equality of two data sets with multidimensional variables
Hello there,
I have two data sets with 14 variables each, and wish to do the test
for equality of their covariance matrices and mean vectors. Normally
these tests should be done by chi square test (box provided) and
Hotelling's T square test respectively. Which R functions could do
this kind of test? I just find some functions could do for one
dimension, but no for multidimension. Some one

help: how to plot a circle on the scatter plot
Hello,
I have a data set with 15 variables, and use "pairs" to plot the
scatterplot of this data set. Then I want to plot some circles on the
small pictures with high correlation(e.g. > 0.9).
First, I use "cor" to obtain the corresponding correlation matrix (x)
for this scatterplot.
Second, use "seq(along = x)[x > 0.9]" to find the positions of the

Help: x11 position in the Unix environment
Hello,
In the Unix environment, I open a window by x11(). May I specify the
position of this window by specifying the position of the top left of
the window as in Windows environment? Or some other parameters can be
used to do that?
Thank you,

Help: how to specify the current active window by mouse
Hello,
When I use "windows()" to open several windows, e.g. 4 windows, device
2, device 3, device 4 and device 5. Normally using "dev.set()" to
specify the current active window, if there is a way to specify the
active window by mouse click? When I click device 3, device 3 becomes
active (shown on device header), and when I click device 4, device 4
becomes active, so on....

Help: how to hide the buttons of a new opening device
Hello,
When I open a new device by "windows()", how to hide the 3 buttons on
the top-right corner of this window, since I want to make these
buttons not work, and the window can be closed only by "dev.off()" or
"graphics.off()".

how to split several objects' names
Hello,
I have a string like "O1 O2 O3", O1, O2 and O3 are the names of three
objects. How to split it into a vector or three new objects, and
obtain their content? I try to use strsplit to do that, but seems it
doesn't work like that.
And what is "<<-" for? the same as "<-"?
Thank you,
Shengzhe

draw borders of bars inside of the rectangles in a barplot
Dear R-users,
I want to draw a barplot with beside=TRUE.
One halve of the bars are drawn with a border, while the other halve are drawn without a border (i.e. filled bars vs. non-filled bars next to each other).
Because borders are drawn around the bars, doing this leads to one halve of the bars being wider than the other halve, expanding across the 0-point of the y-axis.
This problem emerges

draw borders of bars inside of the rectangles in a barplot
I recommend instead of no border, that you use a border with the same
color as the fill.
I do this in the likert functions in the HH package.

barplot() does not draw bars correctly in R 1.9.0 (PR#6776)
Bars are not stacked, but superimposed. This happens even with the first
example of barplot:
tN <- table(Ni <- rpois(100, lambda=5))
r <- barplot(tN, col='gray')

bug/feature with barplot?
I have found a bug/feature with barplot that at least to me shows
undesireable behaviour. When using barplot and plotting fewer
groups/levels/factors(I am unsure what they are called) than the number
of colors stated in a col statement, the colors wrap around such that
the colors are not fixed to one group. This is mostly problematic when
I make R figures using scripts, since I sometimes have

default borders in boxplot and barplot
This is my first post so hopefully I haven't mucked up the rules.
I'm trying to change the default borders in either boxplot or barplot so
that, at the request of a journal, all of my figures have the same type of
border.
I've successfully used par(bty="o") using plot(1:10, bty="o"), but it
seems that barplot and boxplot have their own defaults that override

orientation of eps files
hello,
i have a problem with the orientation of eps files produced with the postscript() command. i have generated some eps files with R using:
postscript(file = filename, horizontal = FALSE, paper = "special", onefile = F
ALSE, height = height, width = width, pointsize = pointsize)
now, when i include these eps files into a standard paper document (ie. a4 paper, portrait orientation)

Barplot for degree distribution
In barplot for degree distribution x-axis is not seen.
See the example below

> plot(dd1, xlab="degree", ylab = "frequency")
whereas barplot doesnot have any x-axis

Problem with colormodel in pdf driver
I'm trying to create figures in PDF that use the 'gray' colormodel
instead of the default 'RGB' model, by requirements of a publisher.
My problem has to do with the fact that I'm not being able to get gray
colors with this option on the pdf() driver. Here is a small example for
problem replication:

Barplots
Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to label individual bars on a barplot? I want to put an "*" or letter ABOVE the bar to denote statistical significance. Is this possible and how?
Thanks,
Suzanne

But in their example the 4 groups of bars are all composed of 8 bars.
I want to be able do display the same kind of graph but where the number
of bars in each group are not the same. For example the

eps file not positioned properly in latex document
Dear People,
I am trying to include a barplot (see code below), in a latex document.
However, the plot appears in totally the wrong position. I know this is
not an R question as such, but the eps file is produced by R and I thought
that perhaps other people had had similar problems and could give me
pointers. Am I doing anything obviously wrong?
Sincerely, Faheem Mitha.
